Really poor performance in the latest Media Pro
I have a catalog with less than 10k images. It opens in an instant, but whenever I click on a category to view its contents, I get a spinning beach-ball for 14 seconds(!!) on an 8-core Mac Pro with 24G RAM and a very fast RAID-10 array.
Further, when I try to "Reset Paths..." on just 1400 files, it takes about 20 minutes. What is Media Pro doing that takes so long?? Shouldn't it just be looking for that filename in the target directory and changing the path to the original? I can actually write an AppleScript to do the path rename before the built-in functionality is finished!
Is anyone else seeing these types of slowdowns? My catalog is upgraded from Expression Media 1.
Thanks,
John

Performance is discussed several times on this forum. I think you can find all info to build yourself a picture.Further, when I try to "Reset Paths..." on just 1400 files, it takes about 20 minutes. Resetting paths on EM was not slow. On this moment i do not have a MP to test but maybe someone else does???
I can not remember this was an issue when i tested it recently (Win7 64bit). But yes, i think it can not be that hard only to change some references in the database.

I discovered why my categories were so slow to select: because all the images in those categories were offline. If a category has no offline images, selection and display of thumbnails is nearly instant.
Also, the pictures whose paths I was resetting were all offline, so I think that's the case Media Pro doesn't handle very gracefully.0
