I am not sure whether you have been reading this forum a lot or not - never mind - but you just made a nice summary of what's been going around here lately.
With the introduction of CO 4.5 and its Pro/DB editions, a whole new bunch of professional users moved from CO3 to CO4 platform (like what happened approx. a year ago with the CO4 Standard release). Both excitement and disappointment are part of the user's experience. Part due to learning new tricks, part due to CO4.x being work in progress. This will continue for some time while we will see improvements with each intermediate release.
Positive criticism like on this forum will help to develop the application in the desired direction.

So far for my general remarks today. It must be year's end, looking back and forward. 😉
Oh, and same kind of reflecting thread from Andrew here:

Yes Paul i do read the forum 😊

With no doubt the converter part did improve a lot. I can live with the bugs etc alike - they will be soon enough solved.

But i really have problems using this software on a shoot. No doubt that software was simply easy and fast to handle.
I spoke to many photographers and assistents and dig techs during the last weeks and all think that a lot things did get complicated (on a shoot)

i mean - as an example
    1.)
before i did create a look changing profiles, curves, saturarion controlls, contrast or whatever.. one click and i could tick now all the settings i wanted to apply to my selection. Now i have to do three steps instead of one.
That is not an improve - nobody can say that.

    2.)
Sharpness and Focus check on critical light Situations. The Art director is just after seeing the picture in total - i as digi tech are concerned about the quality... before i could just pop out that little sharpening window - put it on a second screen or somewhere on the side.

    3.)
New Folders in Session. The Session managment was one of the great things in the mac version. i know some of my colleagues did create a session for each picture set up - but if you shoot a lot different pictures a day the session managment was great and most did use it that way. Now i cant even create a new Folder. It was easy before - so why was it changed to something less effective.

I could go on with many smaller things that will probably be worked out anyway like that i have to change now into a different tab to see what i could simply let pop out "over command + i" in a new seperated window while i still could control my curves etc while they are comming in without changing the tab every sec.

While as i already said twice or so - sorry - the software did improve a lot in the converting section the shooting part did get, sorry to say, rubbish.

I agree entirely, and have posted quite a bit on this. I now use C0 3.7.9 Pro to create sessions (with a really usable and legible sessions template), make my selects, and then process my selects in CO 4.5.2, which is quite bug-ridden and has far less useful functionality as far as I'm concerned. But the quality and speed of conversions are vastly improved. It would be great if the converted images could be opened as Smart-Objects, allowing for the return to CO for tweaking (as obtains with ACR).

There where some really good working features - and they are all removed..

    -Sharpness control became a mess

-Session managment is now pure horror - why cant you now ad folders that easy anymore?

-Applying image settings - it was so easy and logic and fast in 3.x (one click and you could tick what you like - now i have to change several windows.

-Image Setting shortcuts (decrease or increase of saturation, exposure etc) Sometimes you have to adjust every second pic slightly just for the previews you hand your customer. It takes ages and is not possible at all that way.

Honestly all the nice things that made Capture One so famous on a shot are now gone.

I understand that stability and new cameras take some time to get improved and implemented.
And i understand that many semi professional photgraphers and assistens are ok with the new software.. and the new look etc is something everybody can get used to.
But those features Phase One removed should really be integrated.

    What do you guys think?

    Agree, well said.

Let me give some input if I may, many things are different and we are creatures of habit.
So since I have tried to be on the other side and worked some shoots as digital tech I can tell you at least how I worked it out with good success based upon the input here

    1. I use easy copy and apply on a range of images much like any program
If you use the clipboard there is one fall pit and this is by default the program choose all things that has been changed on an image.
If you click on the small drop down arrow at the top of the clip board you can unselect "Autoselect adjusted" what this will do is to change the clipboard to Capture One 3 style where check boxes is checked according to last use instead of what has been modified on the image currently selected.

    2. In my case I was using a Mac Book Pro and a 23" external screen. On external I placed the viewer and main window on laptop.
This worked well to use external as flip as focus and one as composition.

    3. In the old version there was a big open space for folder but the folder browser was horrible.
With the new you have a good folder browser and the space where you drop folders on is "Session Favorites"
So you can either pre-create folders in finder and drop them on "Session Favorites" or do through System Folder list by right clicking and create new folder and then right click again on new folder to add to favorite.
Personally I do it in the finder and then drag all the folders strait on as favorite.

    This user has it right
