Rotated thumbnails : does not match media file

Due to a mistake, I appear to have rotated about 250 images.

After rotating them back, the thumbnails are in correct rotation (via the thumbnail tab),
but via the media tab the pictures are upside down. Rotating images again results in
the reverse situation.

What might I have done wrong?

  What happens after rebuilding? (Try 1 image first)
