Import directly from camera

All,

Something is driving me nuts, and if C1 is incapable of doing this, I'm going to pass on a purchase and probably (begrudgingly) go with LR6 when it's released.

In Aperture and Lightroom 5, I can import images from my camera hooked directly to my Macbook Pro via USB.

In Capture One, I'm unable to import directly from my camera. I have to first import the raws from Lightroom, and then I'm able to import them into Capture One.

What am I missing? Or is Capture One incapable of importing directly from camera? Even Phase One's Media Pro is able to import directly from camera (⌘U)

    I only shoot in RAW and find that it is very much easier and quick to upload files via a card reader directly into C1 P8.

    Are you saying that C1 won't recognise your card when loaded in your camera?

    I think the OP was connecting the camera to the Mac with a USB cable and trying to import that way. I'm not sure why he would prefer that, using a USB 3.0 card reader should be much, much faster.

    Have you placed your camera in Mass Storage mode? If placed in PTP or Remote it will connect as a tethered camera instead.

    But, it would be faster to do this via a seperate card-reader.

    Regardless of speed, etc, I'm still looking for a definitive answer (sorry, I know that sounds harsh, no snark intended). There are lots of scenarios where a reader may not be available -- reader is in my camera bag, not close at hand, reader gets lost or left behind in the hotel room, etc...

    Question remains -- can C1 import directly from the camera connected via USB? Aperture can. Lightroom can. It appears that C1 8 can *not* (which boggles the !$%&! out of me, as Phase One's Media Pro *can* import directly from camera).

    Also, my MBP is USB 2.0, not 3.0, so the speed difference isn't that great (I get the point, regardless).

    No, it's not connecting as a tethered camera.

    EDIT -- not sure that it matters, but this is a Nikon D750.

    Simple answer: yes. Capture One does not directly import from camera. You can use Image Capture (on every Mac, is an OS X application) for that if you wish.

    Why? Easy, connecting means tethering, not importing from card. That is the main difference with other software. Other suggestion here might actually help you more then you now can comprehend. By the way, does your Mac has an SD card reader? Does the D750 shoot to SD cards? Perhaps that might help.
