Can't export from tif or jpeg
Hi all,
Looking for some assistance... I am trying to see if Capture One Pro 8 would be a good replacement for my current workflow of Capture NX2 + Lightroom 5 (and an external editor for final tweaks), and so far I like the results I am getting with the C1 trial. However, something I've noticed is that if I export a raw (NEF) variant from C1 as tif or jpeg to an external program such as Paint Shop Pro for additional editing, then import that newly edited tif of jpeg file back into C1, I cannot export the new jpeg or tif from Capture One Pro 8. I would like to be able to again export these edited jpeg or tif files if I choose to edit the resulting jpeg or tif (modified by the external editor) within C1 for final quick modifications before production. I can currently do this with Lightroom5 and the process has worked great for me when I want to revisit a finished picture and make minor cropping or other adjustment and export it again to publish.
I know I can export again from C1 using the NEF after making final additional edits to it, but that NEF wouldn't have any modifications from the external editor (such as the jpeg or tif would).
So, in summary: I have no issue creating a tif and jpeg from the C1-edited NEF file with adjustments; it's the (re)imported jpeg or tif from the external editor that I cannot export to a new final jpeg from C1. This is the error I get:
For tif: "Error processing file BritishRally_20141102_003_CO.tif - Error [1 - resError]"
For jpeg: "Error processing file BritishRally_20141102_003_CO.jpg - Error [19 - resCouldNotLoadRawData]"
Thanks in advance for any help!

OK, no answers yet lol... So after more experimenting, I don't think C1 is going to replace LR5 for my workflow, but is a very suitable replacement for Capture NX2 raw file editing and converting.
If I create a jpeg or tiff from the original raw file in C1, and then import that jpeg file into C1 for image management and leave it alone or edit it, it is fine, and I can export/create a new jpeg with any modifications made to it in C1. If however, I export that jpeg to another program for further editing, C1 won't automatically refresh its library to display the modified jpeg (as LR does). It keeps the old version of the jpeg in the library, even though it has been overwritten by the external program.
If I remove said jpeg from the library in C1, and re-import it, it will then pick up the new jpeg with the external modifications, but if I then try to export that jpeg (whether further edited in C1 or not) for publication, that's when it errors out - it does not like modified jpegs from other programs. I think C1 is looking for the exact same jpeg it created (and tagged?) itself, and will not export/create a new jpeg file to another location after the jpeg has been modified by an external program.
This will not work for me, as after I have a jpeg I sometimes make minor edits to those jpegs within another program, or within LR (or in this case C1), and am able to publish that new jpeg that now contains all the combined modifications from the raw edit, the external editor and LR.
This is a bummer, I was hoping to not have to keep LR with C1, but looks like I will simply be able to replace CNX2 with C1. C1 is more user friendly, quicker, and the image quality results are at the least on par with CNX2.
Thanks for listening!0 -
Hi,
are you sure you have JPEG and TIFF editing enabled in Preferences / Editing? I wouldn't say that C1 is the best tool for the final tweaks you want to do to the JPG or TIF files but I'm not aware of some general issue which wouldn't allow for this (other than having the editing of such files disabled).0
