"...require a newer processing engine. The processing engine can be upgraded using the Base Characteristics tool."

I just upgraded to 8. I can't find this tool. What do I do to use local adjustments?

If you are using the default workspace you can find the Base Characteristic tool in the Color tool tab and from there you can change the the Engine clicking on the Upgrade button.
If you are opening with CO8 a picture you have previously opened with CO7 the default engine is the CO7 engine and you have to upgrade to be able to use the new local adjustments. For "new" pictures the default engine is CO8 and there is no need to upgrade.
You can also add the Base Characteristic tool to any Tool Tab if you are not able to see it in your workspace.
