Error information after DNG import / no edits survive import
Hi!
I am currently shifting from LR to C1. Therefore I am importing my old DNG files into several new C1 catalogs.
I have selected a bunch of relevant pictures in LR and exported this selection as a catalog. This catalog file I then import via the "import catalog" function into my new C1 catalog.
In general the import runs smooth, but at the end of the import I get the following message:
Catalog Import complete
1947 files imported
1964 incompatible files
0 offline files skipped.
Why "incompatible files" - what does that mean? The files can be views within C1 without any problems.
Another thing is: If I compate the imported files with the originals I notice that e.g. crop and whitebalance corrections are not considered by C1. I thought that this are parameters that should survice the move from LR to C1. Am I wrong? Does the "incompatible" files have something to do with this?
The DNG files are the "normal" DNGs the LR creates during import into his catalog.
Any ideas about this?
Regards,
Oliver

I ran into similar error messaging yesterday that turned out to be an NTFS permissions issue.
I suspect this isn't your issue, but it's at least a thing to check.0 -

Thanks for your reply!
Hm... Any ideas what to check exactly? Since I can access the files without any problems (view, move) I not quite sure where or what to look for.
So you are importing LR DNGs as well?0 -

Scroll down to question #9 and see if the answer is relevant: https://imagealchemist.net/capture-one-faq/

Actually, there is no #9 at this time (possibly subject to change), but there are two #8. The second one is about DNG.0 -

Ah .. have found it. Thanks!
But it only states that DNGs are supported. Either linear/converted or non-linear/non-converted. The problem is the "with some limitations". Would be nice to know these limitations.
In fact the files we are talking about are old scans (jpg) of diapositves therefore I deal with converted DNGs. And I guess that the scanner used to scan the slides is not supported. But I don't understand even they do not support the scanner why do they ignore things like crop? I think this is something that is written into the LR catalog so during import they can could apply this setting, regardless of the original "camera". But here my technical background is not sufficient enough 😉
I will today try to convert DNGs created by LR for my Nikon and see what information is used during import with these kind of files. Hopefully a little more.
Otherwise I think I will try to import the jpgs that I created of these DNGs in LR (as some kind of "final version") so that I have the both files within C1: The imported DNG w/o any modifications and a jpg version of the LR edits. Hope this is possible... 😕0 -
Oh... so sad... I've imported DNGs, created by LR and based on Nikon D70 / D7100: All are "imcompatible" and non of my LR edits are recognised ☹️
Is it possible that LR does not export the changes in the catalog file?0 -

Thank you OddS for bringing the error in numbering to my attention. There is now a #9. 😂0 -

The incompatibility could be the DNG version number (maybe not the exact term). Capture One does not support the latest DNG revision, to say the least.
The fact that adjustments you made in Lr are not recognised in Capture One could come from the fact that Lr stores (or can store) adjustments into the DNG file, where I believe Capture One reads adjustments from the Lr database only.
In general, the original RAW files are to be preferred in Capture One or the converted DNG file must include the RAW file.0 -

Ok, thank you for the information. The problem is I have (like many others... 😊) for many old files only the DNGs and not the RAWs any longer. So I have to come around this problem...
If you say that the DNG version may be a problem I will try to export the DNG from LR again - I just saw that this is possible and that you can select the required DNG version. I will set it to 6.somehting, hope this works.
Thanks!
