First of all I'm new to Capture One software.
Last year I gave version 6.3 a test drive and found it too slow.
Three month later I wanted to try a newer version 6.3.3 since the trial time had exceeded I tested it in Digital Back modes.
That side of the software loaded a folder with 4000+ photos smoothly.

So I ordered Capture One Pro 6.3.3. And slowness returned when switching back to the Capture One Pro module. ☹️

I saw a message in this thread about using a ssd hard-drive for the cache (proxy?).
Elsewhere I read that C1 uses the cache (proxy?) to preview images instead of the actual files.

Now I get a bit technical philosophic; Of course it is good that C1 does not clutter the user photo folders with C1 dedicated sidecar files or folders. While I'm glad C1 keeps my photo folders clean, I fail to see the need of the image preview...
Does the software code need the image preview files because it contains image information? Could that information be stored in the photo detail file? Would that help?
In other words could the C1 specific details in the .cop files be stored in the .cof files without the photo preview pixels?

My version (64bit C1 Pro 6.3.2) had suddenly experienced a major slow down that had started to annoy me. There were pauses of a few seconds at various points when working. I have a 12GB i7 64 bit Win 7 PC with an open CL graphics card so the machine isn't under specified. The slowdown appeared all of a sudden.

I did the full clean up as described in posting 2 and installed 6.3.3 from scratch. After 3 minutes of use it crashed and then continued to crash on every start up.

I then installed 6.3.3 over the top, same problem, crash on every start up

Removed 6.3.3 and installed 6.3.2, same problem. Argh, getting really annoyed now and wished I hadn't touched a 'working' install.

Anyways, after half an hour of doing various full C1 removals, rebooting, 6.3.2 and 6.3.3 installs, dealing with corrupt/missing profiles and disabling my firewall to allow the new capture1.exe to talk to the internet otherwise C1 just hangs on first use I finally have a working copy of 64bit 6.3.3.

The good new is the slowdown has been fixed, woo hoo, but the bad news is that it was *far* from trivial to fix it, not a pleasant experience at all. ☹️

Oh, by the way I work in *IT*, I just take photos for fun. . . 😊
