In short, C1 is a good alternative to Aperture but significantly more expensive than other alternatives. Image quality is good and most tools work well. There are some bugs - the quality is not up to Apple standards (IMHO). Fortunately, Phase One Tech Support is responsive. You will find it fairly familiar to work with. There is a good webcast to watch on the Phase One YouTube Webcast channel and lots of other useful threads here on migrating. I also have an extensive thread over on the MacRumors Digital Photography forum related to this topic.

    1. Do a search or browse this forum... Too much to repeat here.

    2. C1 is a RAW converter or editor. Those cameras shoot JPEG so it will work as well as any other with JPEG images.

    3. I would check the system requirements. Doubtful SL is still supported.

    4. Media Pro is all but discontinued from what I understand.

    5. Yes (Keystone correction)

I bought licences for Capture One Pro 6 and Media Pro but have never really used them because I was already using Aperture/Expressions.

Now that Aperture is being eliminated by Apple, I am interested in switching.

And what are other users experiences, positive and negative of switching?

As already suggested, please do a search on the forum or just browse a bit and you will be served with a bulk of information and experience. What I have read about experiences is that there is a lot to gain (image quality, tethered shooting) and some to lose. YMMV.

Please use the 30-day trail of CO Pro 8 to discover yourself what it can do for you. You are welcome to share your experiences and any questions you may have.

I've published a 2-part article about a comparison of Aperture, Capture One Pro and Lightroom on PhotoApps.expert.

I hope it is ok I link to it?

    Well written, Jochen.

I agree completely that the tool I miss most from Aperture is being able to brush in multiple curves adjustments.

And also with your needs for what one should have:

The important points about a curve adjustment brush are:

    1) You can modify the curve at any time
    2) It should be possible to brush multiple different curves
    3) Ideally there is a luminance mode that doesn't affect saturation

And agree with the comment by Optimaldelusion on the article:

    The second is red-eye removal.

Yes, it's a convenience. But what is wrong with that? 😊
