Sony icc Generic vs Standard

I'm new to Sony cameras and have just noticed there are two profiles in CO for many of the Sony cameras. I'm using the A7II and there is a "Generic" (default) profile and also a "Standard" profile. I was just wondering what the purpose behind these were ? Is the Standard icc profile supposed to be a closer match to the Sony Camera Standard jpg profile in the camera for instance ?

    My answer is not really an answer to your question, I know
    😉 But:

    I have only a DSLR A900. I've set the in-camera profile to Adobe RGB and so too in Capture One. That's was it.

    Thanks but the in camera profile has nothing to do with the CO icc profile.

    Interesting thought. Have you tried this perhaps? I noticed that the Standard profiles were added with CO8, besides the existing generic. Not sure whether this are a kind of Generic V2 kind of profile or that there was another idea behind it, as you suggest.

    I asked phase one support this question right after release of CO1v8, and they told me that the "standard" profile was an improvement on the first ("generic") profile for the A7r, based on user feedback ánd (interestingly) feedback from Sony. Whatever they did, the "standard" profile is to my eyes the best profile that I have ever used for a camera with ány raw converter. Over hundreds of images the color accuracy has proven great, as well as tonality. The blue skies have a somewhat too obvious preference for shifting towards magenta, but that's personal, and I simply created my own version with a single edit in the advanced color editor.
    It might just be that Sony, with all of its years of experience with color reproduction, lended Phase one a hand with this profile, who knows, but it is definitely not identical to OOC Jpeg. In fact, its much better.

    Thanks chaps.

    I haven't actually shot any jpg's to compare yet, just haven't had time. I have swapped between the profiles and I think I may prefer the Standard profile, it seems a little richer in colour to me. They are not wildly different though, I'll have to have a play at the weekend I think.

    Its been a while but thought I'd update this for anyone else using the Sony camera's. The Standard profile is really nice, much better than the Generic and as ChrisM said earlier its better than the jpg's too as they seem to have a very strong/bright reds.

    left side - USD $30 IT8 target (7 years old, not individually measured - used bulk XYZ/LAB data supplied, illuminated by halogen light - not filtered up to daylight range, so it was around ~2800K) with PM5

    right side - C1 OEM Sony A7 "Standard" profile...
