C1P5.1.1 terribly slow w/ Canon files but really fast w/P65+
So basically 90% of my jobs as a tech nowadays is with Canon and the rest of the time with a P-something. I find everything about working with 21MP Canon files slows the application down tremendously while working with 60MB P65 files there is no problem. This is mostly on a brand new i7 macbook pro. Of course tethering w/ Canon USB is awful and if the photographer shoots faster than a frame a second it will crash every time. That is standard. Sometimes I've used the USB tether cord directly into a Apple cinema display and have much less issues, I guess the USB needs more power. I must look for a usb powered repeater. But editing, moving around a session, just generally working with canon files is generally dog slow with big sessions, whereas my experience with the P65 on the same laptop is a breeze. Of course firewire is much better but why is the session so much slower with the smaller canon files? Any ideas about that?
And why does the P65 have firewire 400 instead of firewire 800 like Apple computer made in the last 3+ years or so?
Also why does it take capture one to rename files in a folder where it only takes bridge a few seconds?
I thought i would work a session basically through bridge for naming and file management (on CF-card canon shoots) but that invariably leads to a corrupted session in capture one down the line.

No one from Phase has any ideas? Does anyone else find sessions work better with Phase files than Canon files? Or that tethering with the bigger Phase files is much better than the Canon? 0 -
There are plenty of threads here concerning Canon Tethering and performance that I would suggest you search for and read. If you are looking for a direct answer from Phase One, please create a support case as this is a User to User forum. We would be happy to take a deeper look at all your concerns. 0
