License management servers down -> activation lost

I have the same problem and I urgently need to use my catalogs, since my selections and ratings from over 5000 photos are all in there. That's days of work. It's insane to me that I can't use a software if the license server dies.

Looking forward to a response from P1.

Think it would be wise to have some kind of reset of the trial period when software have been successfully activated to avoid this weakness in the license system. Especially for a professional software that many depend on.

Same here. Can't even access my photos. Activate (does nothing) or close are the only options.

What happened with Phase One? No reaction?
I use MediaPro and C1 since years.
I have lost access to my pictures via MediaPro.

Why do we need the company servers? Once payed for, the product should forget the "server". If P1 goes to vacation I cannot work anymore? Do I miss something?

    Same here.
Why do we need to verify with C1?

All software that works on an activation basis will want to check at various points whether the activations are still current.

It was so much better back in the day when you could buy 1 Not For Commercial Use copy and install it on everything in sight.

Or at least it was good until the vendor when out of business.

I think yo9u could probably do as Kay (in the first post) has suggested.

Disconnect from the internet for a few moments, start Media Pro and then, if you get the same result, you will be working.

There are many reasons why systems can fail - not all of them under the control of your supplier.

For example, a recent random event most likely unrelated to your problems with Media Pro:

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/04/20 ... _problems/

    And another ...

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/03/23 ... the_world/

However I agree that some permanent and strategic way around the problem should be devised and communicated to users.

    HI

We have had an issue with activation service between 23/4 02:45 and 25/4 07:30 central European time.
Activation service is now fully restored.

It is very disappointing that the only time the company communicated to users was AFTER a two day outage. You have social media accounts. Why are you not using them to inform customers?

Contrast the way Phase One handled this to the somewhat more trivial service Pocket, who also experienced an outage this weekend. Pocket posted a Twitter post saying connectivity had been lost to the service within minutes of the issue. They made another Twitter post the minute it was restored. Phase One apparently believes that social media is a one-way marketing tool.

This incident brings up an important issue. Let's assume PhaseOne shuts their doors and the activation server turns off. That means all of our photo catalogs are dead in the water, inaccessible and unable to be accessed. That is unexpected and incredibly troubling.

Activation does not require holding user content hostage. I used a financial management software called Adarian which went out of business overnight without notice. The software was activated with a code and the activation was permanent. I still use it today despite the company no longer being in existence.

+1. Phase One's activation and license verification procedures leave much to be desired. Once activated, I can't understand why the software has to constantly "phone home" to be allowed to run. Makes no sense.

I think, at least out of courtesy if not out of proper customer support, P1 must answer some troubling questions raised by users. It seems P1 believes otherwise. Pity.

    Hi ALL,

Just got THE answer from tech support. One can work without Internet, BUT, while on line, MP checks... etc. etc... If the servers have cramps (!) one stops the work. What is this called?

With respect to this topic, one issue we have been able to reproduce in-house, is regarding the dialog where we fill out the license information.

We have observed that the Country field appears greyed out/disabled on most computers so when you click the Activate button without selecting a Country first, MP will do nothing, no error-message.

All the fields in the license activation dialog are required in order to submit the license for activation on the server. The UI will be updated in the next version to clarify this requirement.

I hope this helps some of you.

Yep, choosing a country from the drop down menu solved my problem. Thanks for quick and personal support, pah!

    Hi,

Still, no explanation about what happens IF P1 closes. Not polite! Earning money by the CUSTOMERS is IMPORTANT. It seems to me that the answer is clear: If one wants to be sure his/her tools will always work, then switch to something else. Can't understand P1.
