Basic Orientation

I am not too familiar with shooting Canon tethered to C1 (usually shoot to card). I would like to shoot portraits and have them import as portraits. Right now I am shooting portraits, but they are appearing as landscapes, and must be rotated 90 degrees after being imported. This happens both with my older 1ds and a 1ds MarkII . Is this an issue to be addressed through the c1 software, or the camera body? My old 1ds does not have an orientation sensor on board, the new Mark II does. Will that fix the issue on the Mark II. Is there a way around it on the older 1ds? Thanks. I appreciate any advice you may have.

  There is an "auto-rotate" feature in the MKII menu; that should fix it. I'm not familiar with the 1D menu.
  
  In certain situations (such as shooting straight down at a tabletop set), the auto-orientation sensor can be "confused."
  
  2 software solutions:
  
  1) When shooting, use the rotate tool to orient the image correctly; select "inherit from current image" - or, if you haven't shot a new capture since the rotated one, you can also use 'inherit from last capture" - in the camera setup tool (the 2nd from the left in the 7-section toolbar). C1 will take the settings from the displayed image ("inherit from current") or the most recent capture ("from last capture") and apply those setting (curves, rotation, etc.) to new incoming files.
  
  2) You can batch-correct at any time; select all the appropriate images (thumbnails) and use the "rotate" buttons in the toolbar to rotate to proper orientation. (You can also rotate one, then use the "apply settings" and check "rotation" - but the first of these two methods is quicker).
