RGB+L readout

Hello,

we all know that C1 shows the RGB+L values when hovering with the cursor over an image.
My question is, what does exactly the L letter stand for? Is it the luminance? How is it measured?

  Hi,
  
  A complete color (Hue/Saturation/Lightness) can be represented in the color space either by its 3 components Red/Green/Blue, or by its coordinates in what we call L*a*b* system, where L* is the Lightness, and a* and b* are green-red and blue-yellow axes respectively.
  L*=0 is black, L*=100 is white. The L close to the RGB values in Capture One is expressed on an other scale, between 0 (black) and 255 (white), similar to the scales for R, G and B.
