Using Spotlight to find my photos in managed catalog
Hi there
what am i doing wrong i tried to locate my photos using spotlight i have a managed catalog but noting showers up
am i doing something wrong here or can spotlight not see in the C09 catalog !!!

I'm not sure Spotlight can look for managed pictures, since they are located /inside/ your catalog.0 -
Spotlight will not index files inside a package file (which the C1 catalog is).
There are third party apps which are able to look inside package files, one of them is the free "Find any file":

OK let me understand your propose why are you looking for a image inside
a closed library ?
When you choose to use C1 9 in catalog Mode then you can have only control on your workflow by using the Software it self " Capture One" the Library is looked .
BUT ... if you use the Session Mode you can do what you like, the OSX can also tags and read your Index writing inside XMP or IPTC from C1.
for more flexibility i recommend you to use C1 in Session Mod ! if you like to shear your Photos with autores vendor softwares.
But there is a gread function inside C1 that can also help called : OPEN WITH or EDIT WITH just read about it.0 -
You can always 'reference' images in a catalog - in this way they are stored outside the catalog in a normal file system and so are accessible to spotlight and other apps - the catalog only stores any adjustment information for the images. The downside is that you can't so easily move or share the images and associated adjustments as they're separate.

well i have found out that once you rename files in managed that dont really change name so there is one reason why i can't use spotlight to locate a file
Coming from aperture mac OS X would also find the pictures with even if they where managed
i just hoped that C09 could do the same
what scares me there is no relocate orginales function so i have to go into each project to export originals
so now i have to that and some of them will not export lovely
The Raw engine is fantastic but what good is it if you can't find your photos !!!!!!

That's interesting. It seems Spotlight does indeed index the Aperture package file, which I guess must have to do with the overall Media browser integration in OS X itself, allowing you to browse Aperture/iPhoto libraries from other tools like Pages.

Could you please tell me why you want to look for your pictures outside your library using Spotlight? It never occured to me to use anything else than Aperture itself to find and select images. That's what all those neat metadata filters and search queries are for. And it's the same thing with C1: you have your catalog and you can search and filter inside this catalog for all kinds of metadata. Why use Spotlight for this?0 -

well the reason for my spotlight
is that i use driven to upload my photos
ad if there is some symbols in the name then will not upload
and since C09 do not change the name it self so i would try to locate the files and remove them or rename what ever to get my photos backed up
i am now more then 24GB behind in upload so i am losing my mind
and try to search in a 40K catalog well either crash or no files found
so there for a spotlight would have been an option, but i have now found other ways to get to work0 -
What about this?
In Finder, use 'Get Info' on (a copy of) your catalog. Remove the .cocatalog extension from your catalog file. Finder will now see it as an ordinary folder. And Spotlight will see your files.
But with renaming, you will mess up the catalog.

CO9 can change the name of your files, no problem with that.
Within CO9, select all the images you want to rename, then right-click and select "Batch rename…".
Wayyyy better than to try and rename in the Finder.0 -

This only works in sessions. In catalogs, CO only renames the catalog entries, not the files themselves.

It works just fine in a catalog, I do it all the time. And it does change the filenames.0 -

Not here.
CO (managed catalog) says 'pet_shoot_0001.cr2',
Finder - 'Show Package Content' says 'img_5265.cr2'.

Oops, seems like I forgot at some point that we're talking about /managed/ pictures here. It works fine in a catalog with /referenced/ pictures.
