Tidy up referenced folders and libraries
Hi, I am just getting started with C1 and intend to mostly work with a catalog (on my internal HD) and a referenced folder structure (on an external HD). I've imported a couple of Aperture libraries to this new C1 catalog over the last days. I am now at 40k pictures.
I wonder if there's a simple (semi-auto?) way to get the raw image files from the referenced Aperture libraries into my clean folder structure (YYYY/MM/DD) without manually clicking through hundreds of subfolders, creating new ones, moving, locating, etc. - Feels like there's got to be a routine for such a task?

Semi auto, yes. It might take some time and requires some spare hard disks. I've tried this with a 6 week travel project and it worked well to sort everything out by date.
Export the images using the Export option > Originals (include settings)
Set up the Dynamic locations to use the image date format you want.
Export to the spare disk.
This will send a copy of the assets and settings into a "by date" structure.
Once complete, you can import the new structure again to a new catalog, using "current location" (which will be the automated date structure Capture One made for you on Export) and "include settings" to bring in the adjustments into the catalog.0 -
Thanks James - sounds just like what I was hoping for! Just when I looked to go through your steps I found that C1 only gives me the "Originals..." or "Variants..." options under the "Export Images" menu item when I manually click my way down into the lowest folder of the imported Aperture library structure. Which means literally hundreds and hundreds of subfolders to manually select and go through the export dialogue etc. Or am I missing a trick? 0 -
Newbie question - could there be an issue because the imported Aperture libraries folders show an exclamation mark in a triangle (like "attention") instead of the number of pics they contain? I'm sure this will be somewhere in the documentation but it's just too much and I didn't find it yet... 0 -

Select the all images collection (which shows all the assets in the catalog). Select All. Then Export.
I have not tried this with 40k images though. I suspect you might have to do this in sections.0 -

This means the folder does not exist.
In this case the path that was imported from the Aperture catalog is probably no longer valid.0 -

Thanks. That matches my concern. However, when I navigate down to the album level in C1 it does show the pics and they're not marked as "offline" or so...
Anyways - I'll proceed with your advice on exporting and re-importing to new catalogue and see how it goes.
Have a great day

For all who are interested in the topic: James advice works perfectly. Thanks again!
What I learned in addition:
1. Instead of going via the "all images" from the catalog collections area, I've chosen to go via my user collections because this way I would have control over the progress since I couldn't do 40k pics in one go - and also...
2. I could reset the image counter in my naming convention upon each import. And that does make some sense for me because I've organised my collections by event (you can tell my Aperture legacy there) - In case you're wondering: My naming convention for files is: YYYY-MM-DD - xxxx.ORF where "xxxx" is the four digit counter. You get to the counter reset in the dialogue box that opens after you choose "Export images..." and you find it hiding behind the "..." icon of the NAMING area.
Hope you find useful. In case I find out more about the process I'll post it here.

I just came to wonder if the import to the new catalog will recreate my user collections, too? Is that information that's contained in the Capture One folder within the YYYY/MM/DD folder structure that C1 auto-created upon the export from my user collection? Or would that only come across if I really exported (as you advised) from the catalog collection "All Images"? In which case I'd have to start over again...0 -
Well, apparently re-importing from the newly created folder structure into a new library will not auto-magically recreate my user-collections as it did when I originally imported from my old Aperture libraries...
Question to all: Am I missing a trick?
Banking heavily on the swarm intelligence here...
Thanks! Chris0
