Nokia Lumia 1020 DNG files?
Hi there,
Now that the new Nokia Black firmware is out for the 1020 and 1520, it supports Adobe DNG RAW files.
Has anyone tried their files in Capture One Pro 7 (which supports Adobe DNG 1.2 I guess)?
I'm stuck on my Lumia 920 - which is supposed to get the Black Firmware when Nokia makes it available and AT&T feels like it. I think they may support RAW DNG for the camera there.
A friend of mine is a Capture One user and he said he had trouble reading the DNG files, but I think he is on Capture One Pro v6.
Here are some demo ones (from a beta firmware via Nokia - so not what got pushed out recently):
(I only found one reference to a 1020 in the forum...)
Thanks!

I tried those demo files recently with CO7 Pro and it didn´t even recognize them...
Notified the support team - said it wasn´t up to them, but promised to notify the development team...
I really hope they get it under consideration and workin...0 -
It was with great anticipation that I awaited the upgrade to my Lumia 1020 so that I might get the raw, DNG files for the photos I have. The upgrade is here and I have the DNG file from my phone, but I'm unable to load and edit them in my Capture One 6 Pro software. It appears that C1 7 isn't any better.
This becomes a show stopper for me moving forward. Is there some hope that Nokia DNG support may get rolled in at some point? I don't want to give up on C1, it's an awesome tool!
Thanks,
bb0 -
It might be worth all of you creating a Support Ticket identifying your interest so that the C1 team can assess where such interest stands in the line of new products they expect to be asked to support. 0 -
I will try to do that, but I'm wondering how to tell if the Nokia files are "vanilla Adobe DNG files" - if they are customized at all, then it would be a bigger issue.
If it is a bug in DNG in general, then maybe they'd fix it as part of the "DNG Standard"?
If anyone has an idea about that, let me know...
Thanks!0 -

Standards.
Lots of people have them.
Not all of them are fully documented or faithfully followed.0 -
The best part about standards is there are so many ways to follow them! And so many to pick from...
Boy don't I know it...
But if you figure out a good way of interrogating the files, we stand a better chance of getting some action. If Nokia followed the standard and it is legit DNG, then PhaseOne may fix a bug.
Asking them to add a new RAW format is less likely.
(in my estimation)
I just want to be specific.0 -
At present I don't see PhaseOne offering generic dng file support.
However Capture One seems happy enough with dng files from the Adobe converter; in practicality then we do have generic dng support.
Something must be different with the Nokia files. The dng specification allows for proprietary data within a dng file and recommends how to go about this. It's anybodys guess if camera/phone makers comply. Asking PhaseOne to investigate in my opinion is barking up the wrong tree.
I wonder how a Nokia dng would be handled by the Adobe converter, and if converted by it, could it then be edited in Capture One?
Cheers,

So, with the beta Nokia files from their site (which is not the final release of their firmware - I don't have a 1020), Adobe Camera RAW immediately recognizes the DNG file correctly.
FastPictureViewer recognizes the DNG file and will view it, but the color space and dimensions are not correct. I may contact the vendor to see if they know what's going on here.
The files I have are not ones from the new firmware though.
The trouble with saying Nokia should fix it is that that's tantamount to saying "Canon should push firmware out to all their cameras." It would be better to first figure out if the support for Adobe DNG is correct in Capture One.
If Adobe Camera RAW can read the 1020 DNG file with no trouble, then perhaps it isn't a Nokia problem.
Lightroom (according to the Interwebz) was able to read these as well evidently (but I don't have Lr).0 -

...well, yesterday I finally was able to install the new Black-update on my 1020 and rushed to try whether the .dng files work on CO7...and like with the beta files it was a no-go, as with FastStone Image viewer it worked fine. PhotoShop said it was a wrong kind of file (but I´ve a older CS4) 0 -
Unfortunately as well, the response to my support case was "Nope".
They have contacted development already about supporting Nokia DNG RAW, but no specific timeline is available yet.
So, it is a known issue I guess.
I hate Adobe Camera RAW as a tool. It does work (CS6 is what I'm on). But not that much fun...0 -
Nope, ACR is no fun at all...
I´ve been using CO for about 8 yrs now and won´t accept any other...0 -

Lovely 😕
Come on...I want to enjoy my 1020 .dng files on CO, NOT, Lightroom (which I don´t and won´t own)0 -
I keep pressing "Phone Update" on my 920, but AT&T won't release the update yet - they did on the 925.
So, I hope they release it...
Nokia released DNG profiles for Lightroom / ACR:
Great. No love.
I just want to get some decent red eye reduction if nothing else sometimes! A good "flash profile" would be awesome actually...0 -
Oh, the developer for contacted me today.
He said he's updated his CODEC pack and the next version of FastPictureViewer (to be released later) to support Nokia's DNG conversion. This helps us view RAW files with thumbnails and quickly view / cull in other apps.
He corroborated the DNG preview being very strange after the conversion. So, it isn't helpful. He has to actually render the file (rather than use the embedded preview).
Anyhow, at least we have one option for viewing the files in the file system (so we can get thumbnails)!
That also means Media Pro should be able to view them if you use Windows to render your thumbnails.
Next up: Editing!
I hope...
It wasn't exactly clear from Phase One's reply to my support case whether or not they were going to actually work on support or not for the Nokia RAW files. But they do know it has been requested.0 -
Well...however it is - it does feel strange that Lightroom understands those files but CO doesn´t... 0 -

Not entirely. DNG is an Adobe developed specification. If they can't get things to work they would have big problems to answer for.
It's a bit like PDF files. There are documented standards and undocumented standards and some other stuff that possibly just works somehow outside the 'spec'.
Microsoft's Internet Explorer frequently comes up with similar attributes. As do most of the other 'standard setting' products.

Okay, that makes sense... Thanks for clearing that out since I don´t really know the details of these things...0 -
...sorry, I forgot all about this and made a new thread. Anyways, looks like the problem is solved and after some experimenting...it works great !

I just got a Lumia 930 and used Adobe DNG Converter to convert the DNG saved from my 930 to Adobe DNG and then was able to open it in Capture One.
EDIT: Tried 1 photo and opened it in Capture One and it looked terrible.. Probably not the best solution and will have to stick with LR for the time being.0
