RAW processing speed: Phenom II vs Athlon II
I'm about to build a new system based around an AMD cpu (W7-64 bit). Given a certain clock speed, is the Phenom II x4 faster than the Athlon II x4 with RAW processing/generating previews in C1? (e.g. does L3 cache have any beneficial effect). Or are clock speed and number of cores the main determinants of RAW processing speed?

I am thinking about the same. Is lack of L3 cache a problem in Athlon x4?
I use Athlon II x4 630 (4x 2.8GHz), 4GB RAM 1333MHz CL9, hard disc WD640GB Black 32MB cache to develop RAW files from Samsung GX-1s on Capture One 5 (earlier 4.8 ).
The problem is that processing images only takes about 70% of Athlon's power and I did not find yet why it is not full 100% (too slow memory, HDD, lack of L3 cache?). I have to work it out. I will try to speed up memory to find if it is not the problem of my system.0 -
If you do a Google search like "athlon ii vs phenom ii" you will find sufficient sources on the Net. For example:

Information might include over clocking, DDR3 and memory timing and so on.0 -
thanks for the link. I had been looking at the desktop cpu charts at Toms Hardware. Most of the time, Athlon and Phenom are quite close, clock for clock. But in the archiving benchmarks the Phenoms score way better. That is the reason I asked here, specifically with regard to C1. Does C1 for some reason favor Phenom II's over Athlon II's, or are they quite close? 0 -

Before any confusion kicks in, Capture One does not deal with any kind of processor architecture issues like L3 cache whatsoever. Even the operating system is not aware of that. That makes your question hard to answer. What I suspect is that you like to know whether there are any benchmarks done on systems running either processor and Capture One. I am afraid that kind of data is hard to find.
It is a matter of budget: what can you afford? DDR3 is preferable over DDR2 memory, as is a L3 cache. Performance critical applications like CO love it. My 2 cts.0
