PhaseOne Making MediaPro Open Source...
Dear CEO of PhaseOne,
I am using MediaPro since iView Multimedia released MediaPro 3. I did compare it with multiple other alternatives including free ones. Although I have never been a professional photographer I still decided to spend the money on MediaPro 3. It was worth every penny. Unfortunately, iView Multimedia decided to sell it to Microsoft which did not do much with it and then sold it to your company. I had high hopes that we finally will see some strong development again. Unfortunately, nothing much has changed and it is rather clear that MediaPro is low on your priority list. I understand that maybe the revenue generated by this program and other priorities do not allow you to spend significant resources on MediaPro.
Considering the above, I really encourage you to MAKE MEDIAPRO OPEN SOURCE. Your company would take the lead on setting the direction for the product. That direction and the emphasize of this product should be on content management. In other words, please don't take the direction of Adobe Lightroom (which I also own) of trying to do everything. It would be much better to offer a seamless integration with other products including your own and Adobe PS.
Obviously, you are a business that needs to generate profit for the investors. This will still be possible even if the project is made open source. There are many possibilities including service contracts, gaining a much wider acceptance, provide certain add-ons at a cost, etc. I am sure a brain-storming session will bring up many good ideas.
I am looking forward to finally see some strong development again with emphasize on digital asset management.
Sincerely,
Your customer

And perhaps hire Yan Calotychos? I guess he was at Microsoft where the rot began, but he created iView. 0 -
What a great idea!!...and rather than depend on making money from it, making it open source not only shows the forward thinking in such a company but you have also released yourself the responsibility, so making money from it maybe just a bonus(ok, yes you did invest in it:Think long term marketing), but you will have gained many supporters just by going OpenSource...AND you will tie in such a LONGER reach of users on all fronts...many that have not even thought of or heard of Capture One as an option and being free from LRooms "Do all" mentality. This would make other Raw developers have an alternate option. I think you would gain more C1 users by doing this. You will bsically get a "grassroots" following and more people jumping on-board for those reasons alone. Certainly would be on more tongues than there are now. 0
