Deselecting image straight from viewer

If i have mutiple images selected and im narrowing down in multiview, can i deselect an image straight from the viewer or do i need to find the image in browser and deselect it there? thanks

  Deselect Primary Variant ..... it's in the Edit Menu on Windows - something different perhaps on Mac.
  
  You can if you wish define a keyboard shortcut for it.

  ETA: If you have something like the Hand tool selected if you click on an image in the viewer the clicked image will be selected in the Browser. Gives you another way to get there ....
