Disck space
Is it normal that Capture One Pro takes over 11 GB space on a hard disc? Only previews subfolder takes 10GB. It doesn’t look right for me. I’m on win.

Windows determines the disk usage of an installed program by adding up the space used by all the subdirectories below the program's main install location.
So if your Previews directory is inside the Capture One directory (as it is in the default install), it will be counted toward the disk usage.
Nothing to worry about.0 -
I'm only worry about my free space on disc C where the software was installed. The space Is getting very low. 11GB is quite a lot like for one software. Is there anyway I could decrease it? Can I delete something from this folder? 0 -
If I were you, I'd have a look at your "Preview Cache" settings. They can be found under File -> Preferences... and then on the "Preview Cache" tab.
There's a button that says "Get Info" that'll tell you how much data is being used by the Preview Cache.
Below that is a button that allows you to "Choose [another] folder..." in which to store the preview data. That may not be the best idea at this point unless you go to the extra steps of moving your Work files to that new folder too.
What I would do is make sure the "Automatic clean up" is not set to "Never" and it is using a small "specific number of days" or is just set to "Every time when leaving".
Personally I use the "every time when leaving", because I generally work on one shoot until it is done and don't go back to visit it at any predictable time after that. This setting doesn't completely empty the preview cache, it leaves the preview files for your currently open collection, but no others.
If you do have yours set to "5 days" or something sensible it may be that you've just viewed a lot of photos on Capture One in the last five days (did you just start using it and go through all previous shoots?). And over the course of the next week as you establish a more routine usage the automatic clean up will start removing the photos you've not viewed since.0 -
Thanks Christopher
It's sorted. I cleaned up the preview cache and got 10GB on my HD back 😊

My capture one is tak;ing forever to start up and close. I did what you suggested about cleaning the preview cache. It didn't erase them. My preference is set to clean it every time I leave too, but there is a huge amount of files stil left in there. Can I go to my program files and erase them manually?
I have another question. The folders off to the left on my screen are piling up. How do I delete the ones I don't need anymore? I can't figure it out.
thanks for any feedback.0 -
Your two problems are related. While Capture One will empty the cache on exit when configured so, it will not touch the preview files of open collections. So by having all those "folders" (collections) piling up on the left Capture One will not clean up their associated files on exit.
It is easy to delete a collection (it does nothing to the pictures (captures) inside, so don't worry). Just have the one of them active that you want to close, and look right above there in the tool bar. You'll see a button of a green folder with a red X over it. The tooltip should say, "Delete the active collection", when you click that it'll close that one you had active. Repeat for each further collection you wish to remove.
Once they are closed you should see your start and exit times decrease.
One thing I've found, the clean up times increase as you've "worked" with more files. I think that is because Capture One stores the .c1p (preview) and .c1w (work) files in the same directory. When it goes to clean it has to get a list of all the files in the directory in order to find the correct previews, even if it isn't going to touch the work files. It isn't so bad though--well less than a minute; it has just increased over time since I started using Capture One.0
