CO9 Catalog on Dropbox?
Has anyone tried a catalog on Dropbox as a way to share it between computers - but not use it at the same time?
For example, have the Dropbox synced version available on a laptop when away.

I've never tried it, but i believe it should work as long as the Dropbox version is the shadow. Never the original.
If you give it a try, please report here on your experiences.0 -

So make the original the one on the desktop, the Dropbox one an alias to it, and the copy on the laptop and alias to the one on Dropbox?
I'll probably try that.0 -
OK, this seems to be working OK so far.
I have my images managed by CO and therefore stored inside it's catalog.
That catalog is on my Dropbox.
My desktop and laptop both have symlinks on their drives pointed at the Dropbox catalog.
It all works.
Of course, I have to give Dropbox a chance to update from whichever computer I've made changes on and I can't have the catalog open on both computers at the same time. Those are both expected.
Anyone else had any luck? Did you try it a different way?0 -
I am moving from Lightroom to CO9. In Lightroom I created my catalog file in my Dropbox folder and loaded it from my Dropbox folder on each computer, without creating an alias anywhere. Is there a problem with doing this in CO9? 0 -
The Dropbox folder on your computer is a local folder (i.e. its contents resides on your computer's hard drive or SSD, not "in the cloud"). So I don't see why it wouldn't work just fine. And you can always move your catalog back to another location if it doesn't. 0 -
Hi Bob
i use One drive and i have no problems beside that if i work in one album on my laptop and the pro its off then i can't work on it before it is finished syncing i also hav managed files
and on One drive the naming can be a issues
it took me some time to up load 40000 photos ☹️ but once up there it works
i have also have the backup going to the clouds so no matter what i am safe

Hi Bob. Could you please explain Symlinks?
I uploaded my Capture One catalogue to Dropbox [I have that Capture one set to reference my files as I want them stored in specific folders] and then opened on my laptop. Then I closed it and opened it on my desktop and it said it couldn't open as it was in use by my laptop.
If I have Capture One in Dropbox and then aliases on my two machines I will run into the same problem won't I?
If I have the catalogue on my desktop and then an alias in Dropbox isn't that relying on me always keeping my desktop running for it to load on other machines?
Thanks0
