Welcome you're gonna love C1... Here are a couple of notes on your issues...

    1. In the aspect ration do you have Original selected. You just need to select Unconstrained from the ration popup.

    2. I don't play with keystone too much but it seem pretty easy... I would highly suggest viewing some of the video PhaseOne has on YouTube

    3. Here is what I do... Right click (control click) on the image you want to edit and select "Edit With..." this is for the first time going to Photoshop. This will bring up the Edit Recipe dialog. I usually select TIFF, 16bit, uncompressed, Adobe RGB, 300px/in, fixed 100% and Open with Adobe Photoshop CC 2015. Once you have everything selected press edit variant. This will open photoshop and make a variant of the image. Any time you save it will save back to the tiff file and the original NEF will be in tact. To reedit the file just select Open with instead of Edit with. Works like a champ for me.

The Preferences should provide some degree of control over the appearance of the Mask in the crop tool, in particular when the mask is used, its opacity and its brightness.

If you are not seeing that then either there is a difference between Mac and Windows (which I use) or some sort of anomaly with your installation for some reason.

There is an Auto Keystone feature but, as far as I can ascertain, it only works for Phase IQ (and later?) digital backs that have data recorded about the degree angle from horizontal on which to base the calculated adjustments.

    HTH.

There is another way to use the keystone feature BTW.
Click on the crop tab. In the crop tab you will find the keystone correction tool. You can manually adjust the vertical and horizontal here.
I find it easier in some cases than dragging the lines around.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

I've been using the sliders instead of the lines for the keystone, but I guess my question was answered about the auto function. It would be great if C1 could add in future updates something like the LR implementation where it looks for horizontal / vertical lines and automatically applies the keystone for you.

As for the crop function, I'm still having difficulty. It won't let me select or unlock anything. When I hit the drop down menu, there are only two option, both are greyed out. Even trying to type in a ratio manually (i.e. 1000 x 1000) just automatically returns to the native ratio. I've attached a picture just to make sure I'm looking in the right area.

That is not what I would expect to see and I can't think of any prior adjustments that would remove visibility of the options - the preset ratios and the User defined rations for example.

I would guess there is something not quite right with your installation. Not being a Mac user I am not in a position to suggest much EXCEPT that checking permissions (whatever that entails) seems to be regular advice on here for Mac problems.

Hopefully someone who knows will be along shortly to offer something more specific.

Grant, thanks for the reply. Hopefully someone can chime in and help - it be nice to get my crop functionality back.

    Did you select an image?
What kind of image (JPG, TIF, etc.)?
Did you enable that image type in the preferences?

Info you may have already shared, but i haven't dug into the thread to find it:
    Which OS+version?
    Which version of CO?
    Hardware acceleration on/off?

Could you try the crop first, without the Rotation and without the keystone?

Perhaps you could share a bit more of the screen in the screen shot.

Well, now we are into the working week if you still have the issue (Have you tried re-installing yet?) then I would contact Phase One support via a Support Case and get some direct assistance.

So I think I have the issue somewhat sorted.

Apparently, when you have a two monitor configuration enabled, and a tool panel open on both windows, the crop tool doesn't allow for altered aspect ratios. I'm not sure if this is a feature or a bug, but either way, you must close one of the two windows or tool panels to be able to restore the crop function.

    Really?

    You're set up like that?

And you didn't think to go back to a basic workspace to see what happened before asking for help?

Hard as it may be to believe that someone would assume a basic core function of a software wouldn't become inaccessible simply by a workspace configuration, yes, really. Take some time and let it soak in, don't worry, I'll be here when you get back.

Yeah, C1 can be a temperamental piece of software. If you come from Aperture or LR, it can really be aggravating as they are setup "out of the box" without much input from the user.
The cool thing about C1 is that it is way more configurable, and once you get used to it, much faster.
Just try to be patient and keep asking questions. A year from now you will be helping others. 😄

Lastly is editing with an outside editor. I often times use Photoshop to make various changes. Again, in LR when you selected to edit externally, you had a number of options as to how you wanted to open that file. In C1 for example, I edited a file once in PS, saved it, and closed it. I wanted to re-edit that file in PS, and when I selected to so, it created another variant of that file. Is there any way around this? Is there any way to select whether you want to open the file in an external editor with or without the modifications you made to the file visible?
