C1 server Apple Bonjour dependence
Hello all:
RE Apple Bonjour Service, it caused me some problems with C1, symptom was that as soon as you start the Capture Pilot server, you get error messages, about Bonjour service missing. Also it may Possibly it cause C1 crashes when you start the server but that is not yet definite.
My debugging of C1 crashing as soon as you start the Capture Pilot server, points to C1 use of Bonjour as a possible culprit.
P1 assumes you have iTunes installed, and that Bonjour is running. If you don't have it, the error message after starting Capture Pilot Server directs you to Apple but not to the actual links where Bonjour service is located.
Its VERY hard to find, debug and replace this service in a PC. (at least for me, it was missing from SERVICES control panel).
Bonjour Print Service is NOT the right one! THe only solution is to completely remove and reinstall iTunes (a really horrible program) and then enter Control Panel>services> and see if Bonjour exists and that its started. It took many tries to get this right.
WHAT A HASSLE!
P1 should consider another solution entirely, or at least provide users with a reliable link to the required service, or even better provide a utility that debugs and installs the required service.
Anyone else have issues like this?
Kind Regards,
Jon Paul
PS: I submitted crash reports and started a support case but so far no resolution.

Hello again:
P1 software writers should check this link and provide C1 installers with approporate install/uninstall of Bonjour without depending on iTunes or Apple.
Windows
Bonjour SDK for Windows
Download the SDK and distribute Bonjour as part of your Windows app.

Since CO6 (and in CO7) the Bonjour service is installed with the CO installer. It installs version 2.0.4. If Bonjour is already installed, it will not install it, but you can end up with an older version. Removing it and installing CO6 again solves that.
In CO7 the dependency of Bonjour is lifted in the sense that Capture Pilot Server starts with a warning. Bonjour is not necessary for Capture Pilot to work but you have to enter the necesary information manually in your Capture Pilot app on your iOS device.
You do not need to have iTunes or any other Apple software installed on your system.
I just checked this with the latest CO6 versions and CO 701 on 64-bit machine.0 -
Paul: Many thanks for the clarification.
For no reason my C1 6 on a Windows 7 machine stopped finding the Bonjour and gave the manual server message.
Even though I had iTunes on the machine, indeed Bonjour was suddenly missing, after a long time with C1 and Bonjour working fine.
Finally its fixed, just another annoyance.
Kind Regards,

Hi Jon,
Same combo works fine here.
Win7 x64, CO DB 7.1.5 (installs Bonjour 2.0.4): Capture Pilot 1.4 works OK.
Next, I installed iTunes 11.1.3 (installs Bonjour 3.0.0) and Capture Pilot 1.4 runs file with Capture Pilot Server from CO7.
Are you on Capture Pilot 1.4? Firewall OK?
What do you mean with "Bonjour suddenly disappears as a service"?0
