Keywords and Metadata
I'm new to C1 (enjoying it very much) and organizing my photos, I have setup a keyword library and applied - all as expected.
My question is on metadata. I would like my keywords to be part of the metadata so the keywords "live with the image" verse live " with the catalog". To accomplish this should I :
1. Do nothing, applying keywords also updates the metadata, if so where?
2. Create a user preset to update the IPTC data, if so, is there a standard field(s) and format to be followed?
3. something else
Thanks !

I don't clearly understand your question, but the keywords are saved in the catalog, in the same way as the metadata. 0 -
CO doesn't modify the source files. Ever. So your keywords never "live with the image". 0 -

Thanks, that's what i have found and wanted to confirm.
Given that i could create a user defined preset to modify IPTC data......maybe the content or description fields. anyone know of best practices in this area?
thanks

If your final image is a processed jpg or tiff file (for example) then the metadata can be processed to live in that file.
Would that help?
Your original source file will never be populated with embedded metadata as far as C1 activity is concerned.

Thankyou ! it does help. 0 -
...Sooo
if i create a user preset that updates an IPTC metadata field for an image - is that updating the actual metadata in the file? or is the answer still no as C1 DOES NOT update image files.0 -
I don't think so. IPTC metadata are NOT included in the RAW file (only EXIF data are), and C1 will not include them in the file as the software does not alter in any way the original RAW file. 0 -
Thank you !
I'm clear now , you guys are really smart !

Keywords and IPTC metadata can be written in a sidecar file by clicking "sync metadata" in the metadata tool (three dots in top righthand corner). Capture One will then create a sidecar file (.xmp) with the same filename as the image.
