Choosing Apps for new "Edit with"

I guess you choose "Open" at the bottom of the list for 'Open With'.

When you click that, make sure to go to the Applications folder, for me it enters some other folder.

If you still can't choose other apps then, raise a support case, because then something else is wrong.

For me this works and i can choose any application i'd like, even Automator or so.

Thanks! I did that, but all applications are grey in the applications folder and I can't choose any. I'll raise a support case.

Did you solve your problem with "open with" an NIK? I have the same problem!

    I'm also wondering about this.

I would like to be able to extend the list of edit with to my liking. I can add Silver Efex in the "other" option, but not as a std available option.

Hey all, I have been meaning to post about the issue of having to select some NIK apps via the Other... option under Edit With. It's odd that only Dfine2, Sharpener Pro 3 (Output Sharpening and Raw Presharpening), and Viveza 2 show properly in the Edit With menu (see screenshot), however Analog Efex Pro 2, Color Efex Pro 4, HDR Efex Pro 2 and Silver Efex Pro 2 don't show up at all.

Has anyone managed to get these to display as a proper option under Edit With?

If you choose "Other..." at the bottom of that list and navigate to Applications > NIK Collection, you'll find them there and although that won't make them appear in the list you show, you can always find them there and the last one you used will be automatically selected next time you "Edit with...".

Try this out, it will update your list with what you have and remove anything you no longer have.

Thanks for the suggestions, but you obviously did not read the question from Johannes to the end. Manually selecting NIK Collection in the menu " other", they all appear gray and you can not select any of them.
This is obviously a bug in Capture One (Mac edition), but they do not want to admit it, for their official answer is:

"This is because the list is populated with application which announce them self as JPG or TIF compliant according to Apple stands.
Most likly there is an update for the applications you mentioned where this is fiex, if not then simply request it with the producer."

Strange this response from Capture One, because if I want to open a TIFF file on my homescreen, all NIK apps appear in the menu.

Hi @FirstName, thanks for the suggestion. I cleared the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file but it didn't seem to affect C1. The Open With menu in Finder for .tiff files differs from C1's Edit With list. I might ask C1 Tech Support to clarify how exactly the Edit With menu is populated:

So, this is C1 Support's reply. I guess we need to ask Google to sort it...

It is populated with application which have announced them self as TIF or JPG compatible in Mac OS according to Apple standard.
The issue is probably Efex PRO which is known not to comply with current apple standards instead are using some work around for the operating system which is not correct way to do it in the latest operating syste,.
Hopefully they will have that resolved.

Please note that deleting any .plist file does not affect any application. Preferences are cached since OS X Mavericks. You need to go into Terminal.

Interesting to hear. Do you know of any resource that I could read to achieve what we're looking for, without relying on Google/NIK fixing the way their apps announce their TIFF compatibility? e.g. Getting Color Efex Pro and Silver Efex Pro etc to remain permanently in the Edit With list. Switching between apps via the 'Other' menu as @VirtualRain mentioned, isn't a big deal but it would be nice if they were all just there. I'm relatively comfortable in Terminal. Thanks

You could edit the .plist with a plist editor, like PlistEdit Pro for example (not that I have any experience with that).

Either a NIK update (I don't know if thas been one) or a Capture One update has meant that all of my NIK plug-ins appear in C1's the Edit With menu 😊 Although as my C1 editing skills improve, I'm not sure how much I will continue to use the NIK software
