Why so many artifacts

Why are there so many artifacts when using the sharpening in C!. I have tried all kinds of settings and either it's too soft to work with in post or is has so much artifacting you dare not sharpen any more.

I hope in version 4 they will have improved the sharpening as Apeture and DPP both sharpen well.

  Hmm, I always thought of C1's sharpning being very good, with very little side effects. granted I don't sharpen much at that stage (usually use soft as well), but enough to give it a punch.

  Soft is my preferred sharpening setting as I find it does not create much artifacts - if any-. I usually leave it at the default setting and later sharpen in PS for printout. This creates developed pictures that are crisp enough to show details but not sharpened enough to create problems in post-processing.
  
  Note: I tend to prefer softer (contrast, sharpness...) than harder results. YMMV.
