CO7 supports the native camera formats and DNG (except for supported cameras like Leica M-series) is supported as generic file, not camera specific.

You might want to do a search in the CO6 forums as your questions are discussed quite frequently there.

To cut a long story short however, with a DNG workflow you are trapped into the Adobe world, with your native CR2, NEF files you get the best from CO7.

I wonder what is wrong with the OP's DNGs…
I use C1 with DNG issued from Pentax 645D PEF files which aren't recognized (yet?;) by C1.
In fact FYI I use DNGs made from PEF converted with Adobe converter app, but also in camera DNGs.
I have to say that DNGs from PEF have more realistic colors (green!) than in camera DNGs.
Of course the down side is that I don't have the lens correction available and the CA tool doesn't work.
But the demoisacing and colors are so much better than from LR…

Since dng is an adobe proprietary file I would stick with using Lightroom and Photoshop. In my experience dng files, mainly the skin tones, don't look so good in Capture and trying to work with them in C1 is a waste of time.

I thought .dng was an open industry standard file, not a "proprietary" file? Why can't C1 use the dng format to it's fullest?

Do you think they look better in LR?
    Nope!

Even if Adobe did create it for some marketing reasons, yes it is an open industry standard file.
It's an endless discussion here about DNGs…

Part of the DNG standard is open standard, part is not. That is the confusion, and base of the frustration users have when they try to get out of the DNG trap.

Regarding DNG conversion: the only way out is when you have included (embedded) the original raw file into the DNG file during conversion.

This feature was designed as the emergency exit for those who have second thoughts after some time. A feature for a reason, but virtually nobody uses it because you do not see the need until you need it but then it is to late.

DNG (conversion and storing adjustments in it) is a proprietary standard sold as open. Once you're in, you're stuck.
