Sounds like automatic lens correction. Try resetting it.

Thank you for the tip. Where can one go to reset the automatic lens correction globally?

On a photo with an automatic selected area, unchecking the box labeled as "Hide Distorted Areas" does not remove the section. The unselected area outside the rectangle just got a bit larger with distorted area showing up black.

I'm working from memory here, but I think you need to set the profile to generic. You might then be able to copy/apply that adjustment to the other photos.

Resetting the lens profile to generic does help but the lens correction is gone too. I would like to have the profile applied without pre-selecting an area.

The selection is not applied to all images, only to some images even though the same lens profile is applied. The selection just does not make any sense thus I still consider this a bug unless there is a way to control the pre-selection behavior.

Is the lens correction specific to both lens and other settings criteria - for example fstop?

I could certainly see that the results might be required by sensor size (possibly even sensor if some of the smarter new colour assessment features are involved at some point) but might fstop and even focal length (for a zoom) also be significant in a finely tuned lens adjustment?

I would like to be able to turn off globally the auto lens profile distortion correction but be able to choose to keep the chromatic and/or purple fringing correction options. (analyse as in v6)

There is considerable automatic cropping occurring - select the crop tool to see this.
    Possible bug
My 16-35 70-200 100-400 and 24-105 lenses have distortion set to 100% for each lens profile producing the corrected distortion result. My 100 macro IS profile sets the distortion to zero % ie off. Surely all lens calibrations should have the distortion amount set to 100% (even if there is very little).

There is no way to selectively choose the options to set them as defaults, only choice is "remove tool"

Maybe there should be a rethink on how this could be applied

Yeah, I brought this up recently:

    viewtopic.php?f=47&t=13601

It makes me crazy. There's no way around it, just have to get used to the additional irritation when I use one lens zoomed wide.

Same request here. Very annoying when you look at an image that isn't the one you framed for and finally realize it was auto lens distortion correction did the bad. Even worse if you don't realize it was changed by it at all.

Please give us option to turn it off globally.

Setting the Distortion slider to zero frees up the cropped area (and brings back the distortion). You can make a preset of this setting and have CO7 apply the preset automatically on import and tethering.
