Had to roll back to 3.5.2
Last night I had a try of C1 3.5.2 and really liked it so downloaded version 3.6 today.
Oh dear, now I can't open any NEF files previously edited and re-saved in Nikon Capture.
They show up as flourescent pink \"edge\" effect thumbnails and open the same way.
Funnily enough, they are the exact same files that open in Photoshop 7 to a window that say \"This NEF file has been edited in an application. These are the settings stored in the image\". I then do not see the usual WB, Exp adjustment window.
I have a Nikon D70 and run Windows XP Home SP2
Help anyone please?

Files edited in Nikon software has never been supported. This doesn't mean that we do not want to support it (of course ignore settings made in Nikon Capture) You should be able to open files in Nikon Capture and reset settings and then be able to open them in Capture One. 0 -
Thanks for the quick reply.
I did try that by opening the file in NC, resetting all the settings to neutral, resaving in a different location and C1 3.6 still will not show it correctly.
3.5.2 does open it correctly however.
Obviously, I would like to have a RAW convertor that does such a good job of recovering detail in blown highlighs and Nikon Capture is definitely not that!
Any help would be appreciated as I do have high hopes for C10 -

Nikon Capture you can undo the changes you have saved the file previously in Capture. Open the Raw file in Nikon Capture and undo the changes in the Tool Palette (i.e., curves, color, sharpening) and the RAW file will revert back to its original state. This is confirmed from Nikon as well. I have also forwarded this to R&D so it can be solved to ignore the Nikon Capture settings in the future.0 -
Thanks for the info but I'm afraid that doesn't work. I've tried resetting all settings to Neutral and also switching them off. Neither method works.
3.5.2 sees all of the files correctly but 3.6 only reads the original, untouched NEF
One thing that makes me want to perservere with C1 is the much better sharpness and lower noise levels than Bibble (which I'm also trialing in case I can't get 3.6 to work)
Any more suggestions would be much appreciated0 -
As an update, I've spoken to Nikon Tech Support who say that it is impossible to roll the NEF file back to its original state after an adjustment has been made and the file saved.
I also wanted to make sure that this was not just a problem for me and my system.
Has anyone else noticed that this problem exists i.e. C1 3.6 will not correctly presview or display a NEF file that has been previously edited in Nikon Capture.
I'd hate to think I was alone on this one as there must be dozens of people out there with edited NEF files.
Thanks for your help so far0 -
You are not alone. D70-NEF:s saved in Nikon Capture can not be opened with C1 LE 3.6. Also the pixel dimensions are 3008x1996, when the correct size according to Nikon and Photoshop is 3008x2000. Version 3.5.2 was even more wildly off with 3024x1992.
Waiting for 3.6.1.

That's a relief (kind of)
Out of interest, could 3.5.2 open them on your machine?
On mine they're fine.
Also, 3.6 actually opens them but they are PINK PINK PINK0 -
Yes, no problems with 3.5.2. And so far I have found no real benefits in the v. 3.6 \"public beta\". Nikon users will lose nothing by waiting until the obvious bugs are ironed out. I hope they will, soon.
