Giant Confusion: Open CL Compatible Video Cards
One of the great features in Capture One 6.x is the Open CL support. Without it, one might as well stay with the CO 5.x, as running 6.x without the Open CL incurs a big performance penalty over the CO 5.x.
The following KB article mentions a list of supported GPU cards by CO 6.x. Since I am running Windows 7, I am only interested in Windows compatible cards.

The article says:
6 Windows AMD 5xxx 1GB
7 Windows AMD 6xxx 1GB
8 Windows AMD 48xx 1GB

As of December 14, the best interactive performance will be experienced by use of these GPU cards:
Windows Systems:
• NVidia 580GTX, Quadro 6000, AMD 5870
Note that the NVidia 430, 460 and 470 are not mentioned here.
OK, based on the original list, I purchased an AMD 5550 1GB card and found it was not compatible with Open CL even though it belongs to the "6 Windows AMD 5xxx 1GB" category.
Then I bought a more expensive AM 5770 card and the Open CL option is enabled. However, it has the annoying redraw artifacts which I opened a ticket for it.
Lionel of P1 posted some very helpful information about which cards to get. He highly recommended the NVidia "Fermi" cards in the following post.

I am thinking about getting a Nvidia GT 430 or GTX 460 card to try. Here are the ones I am considering.
430: Galaxy 43GGS8HX3SPZ GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3
460: MSI N460GTX Twin Frozr II SOC GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 768MB 192-bit GDDR5
Questions:
1. How much difference will the more powerful 460 card make, 2X, 4X or 8X over the 430 card?
2. Will the lowly Nvidia 430 card be slower or faster than the AMD 5770 card? By 2X, 4X or 8X?
3. Will the redraw artifacts caused by the AMD 5770 card be gone with either NVidia card?
4. Even though only 512MB is used today by CO 6.x, is it wise to invest in 1GB memory for NVidia cards for the future?
Can someone in the "know" provide a updated list of "recommended" video cards to get for Windows based users?

It says 1.5GB, but 1.5GB 470 cards don't exist. I am also interested in what cards will NOT have the redraw artifacts!
Currently I have the nVidia 9800GT 512MB.

Yes. The amount is about anywhere from 10 to 30% in the UI response. The processing is about the same but I have not actually timed it as that was as important to me with my workflow.0 -
that is strange, there should be no reason it is slower unless more is being done, but if one just uses the v5 functions, nothing more is being done. i have noticed slower redraws after I change a setting, but i figured this was still bugs that had not been worked out (like the screen displays half the image until i refresh it, or gives a moment of strange video artifact as it is redrawing. 0 -

Do NVidia GTX 450 based cards work?
Additionally here are the available NVidia Fermi cards I can gather. Are they all Open CL compatible for the CO 6.x?

I got GTX 450 1GB and it works since the first release of version 6. But there are brief flick lines artifact during redraw even at 6.1.0 -
I would like to give exact details of the performance of "all" GPU cards. This is just not possible. The list of supported cards is long, and it gets longer every week.
In general, you need to look at the memory, and the number of "stream processors" for AMD or "CUDA" cores for NVidia. The rule of thumb is "the more the better". AMD cores and NVidia cores does not compare 1-1, but essentially an NVidia 480GTX and an AMD 5870 is about equal speed.
I will post a current list of supported GPU cards shortly.

This is strange. I've run some tests and 6 seems around 20% faster than 5 when batching...
What else can I say, I have a i7 860 and a GT 430. I know OpenCL is working because I've seen the artefacts but I can't tell you if the GPU is faster than the CPU (I disabled OpenCL to try it), as they are both virtually instant. Perhaps some filters will tax the hardware heavier than others.
Just another note: I haven't seen the artefacts lately (as in since I tried 6.1).0 -

Based on your tests with CO 6.1, would the NVidia GTX 460 768MB cards provide higher performance than the AMD 5770 1GB cards?
Currently with COP 6.1 and ATI driver 10.12, my AMD 5770 card exhibit redraw artifacts when Open CL enabled. Have you seen this?
I am seriously considering getting a GTX 460 card. It would be my third video card purchase for the CO 6.x adventure. Will a GTX 460 768MB card solve the artifact issue?

The TechPowerUp site did some benchmarking among various AMD/ATI and NVidia graphic cards including the comparison between the GTX 460 card with 768MB memory and the ATI 5770 with 1GB memory.
It looks like the 768MB version of GTX460 is generally faster (10-20%) than the 1GB 5770 in most cases but a bit slower or equal in a few cases. But is it worth another $150 upgrade just make CO 6.1 happy (faster without artifacts)?0 -
The scrambling bug you describe for AMD 5770 is new to me. Can you please file a support case? I have personally tested the 5870 in Win7-64bit without problems. Do you have a sample to share?

The support case (#83200) was opened on Dec 23, 2010. I reported the problem and was told it was a known issue. So I just shut the Open CL off and waited for a solution. It was very sad to do that since I bought the AMD 5770 (2nd try) just for Open CL since the AMD 5550 (1st try) was not the right one.
When 6.1 came out, I tried again and found the artifacts were still present whenever I preform an auto-adjust (Ctrl+L) or making some adjustments such as to the exposure.
I will try to get a screen capture this evening (MST) and post it here.
