Whats the story here?
Ok, I hate to sound mean, and I will say that I think the job that your raw converter does on images is hands down the best I have used. But what is with the back end of the user experience? I mean, aside from having fantastic image quality, why does the rest of the software and your ability to make a 100% usable and stable program fall short? Its not like your software is cheap either, and I would think that esp after seeing all of the posts of everyone having issues up here that you guys would rethink your strategy here. I was amazed when I was at the photo expo and went up to your booth and the guy was running the C1 pro on a mac demonstrating its workflow. I approached him and said wow, that runs really fast whats the deal? You same software on my TWO macs at home runs slower than maple syrup on a cold day. I beach ball all the time, wait for previews, and every adjustment lags. This guys was ripping through stuff on that machine like it was nothing. My mac pro has 20 gigs of RAM, and my macbook has 4. Both machines bog waaaaay down when running C1. I also get an out of memory error after processing and browsing through not that many images. Please dont tell me to submit a crash report, they dont do anything, and please dont tell me to go in and dig deep into my file system and start modifying files, and PLEASE DONT TELL ME TO UPGRADE becasue I am really hesitant to spend more money with your on software that isnt 100%. Its like buying a $300,000 Ferrari and then finding out you cant open the gas door the first time your at a gas station trying to fill it up and you call the dealership and they tell you to go to a hardware store, buy a set of tools, then open the decklid and remove this panel, and then unplug this cable and then stick your hand behing this rod and pull. HOW BOUT JUST MAKING A GAS DOOR OR A PROGRAM THAT WORKS?
Like I said, your image quality if second to none, but finish the job before you go charge a hefty premium for something that doesnt work 100%
So can anyone please explain why anytime i come into the program, I must wait for 20-30 seconds before I can move my mouse cursor? Or the if I make an adjustment, I must wait 2-5 second and see the beach ball spin before an adjustment take s place? Or that after I process about 10 images I get an out of memory error and have to wait 4 minutes and force quit the app? I apologize for coming off brash, its just a littel annoying.
I would loive to go to C15 but im a little hesitant

Have you tried 5? You know you have 30 days for free.
It's really weird that you see all those issues considering, as you saw yourself, it should run just smoothly on your setup. Have been in contact with support? The crash reports are NOT a support channel, but a way to help the developers improve the program with crash information. You should not expect an answer when sending a crash report.0 -
No I have not tried 5 yet. But it seems that alto of people are not having good luck with it either. So I dont know, I may try the 30 day trial and keep my fingers crossed. I have had similar issues that went all the way through the version 4 upgrades. 0 -
I had some issues with Version 5 trial shortly after I installed it but trashing the preferences solved the problem. That is something I have had to do with a lot of applications from time to time, including Photoshop. 0 -

Why not try it, you can always go back to 4 if you want.0 -

Why stop there? Version 3 is still the most stable, has the best user interface, best network performance and respects all embedded metadata. The only things of any use you gain with 4&5 as best I can make out are the clarity slider, highlight and shadow "recovery", better integration of the color editor, some processing speed and compatibility with Mac 10.6 Snow Leopard (5 only AFAIK). The bells and whistles like dust removal are superfluous when so many fundamentals have been overlooked. Sadly pretty much everything else has slid backwards.
Version 3.7.9 is still available though not supported. The lack of support isn't an issue (it doesn't collapse the way 4 does) unless you have a newer camera that isn't supported. P1 have stopped updating the RAW formats they support for v3.
I'm not sure how you'd go license-wise as a new user but I recommend taking it for a spin.0 -
My experience running various versions of Capture One on Macs couldn't be more at odds with yours. From your description of your troubles and the fact that you are using a Mac, I'd say that you probably need to repair disk permissions and run the periodic maintenance tasks on your Mac. Also, your Capture One application might be corrupted and you might need to reinstall.
If you decide to reinstall, perform the routine maintenance and disk repair prior to installation, then repair disk permissions again after installation. Also, zap the pram and force a safe boot to reset system parameters. There is additional information about these procedures on Apple's support site.
If you have a disk utility like SpeedTools check for fragmentation. The Mac is relatively trouble-free but does benefit from regular maintenance to attain peak performance.
Think of it like tuning up a Ferrari only a lot less expensive.0
