Start with an CO5 unistall and reinstall procedure as described here:

I did that. (Sorry I can't deactivate the license the system doesn't run 😉 )
It doesn't work. C1 still terminate immediately and send a crash report.
When I look on my HD, I see the C1 created the following files before it terminate:

    folder preferences:
    com.phaseone.captureone.crash.plist
    com.phaseone.captureone.plist

    folder Application Support:
    CaptureOne/SkinTones/

    Thats it.

    Patrik,
I suggest you open a support case with Phase One and include logs and crash logs. More details on CO5 logs you'll find here
    http://xchange.phaseone.com/content/sup ... nguageid=1
Section in this KB article which in particular is interesting is:
On Mac OS 10.5 Leopard as well as Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard and Capture One 4 it is the four files above Crash reporter that are needed for application status logs, namely:
    CaptureOneCC.Log, CaptureOneIC.Log, CaptureOneICP.Log and com.phaseone.captureone.log

Please also include any Capture One related crash logs located in the CrashReporter folder. These logs are different from the automatic crash reports and show us a complete history of crashes and thus help troubleshooting of a case.

Please note that on Mac OS 10.6 the menu says only Files, not Log Files when navigating to the Crash Reports.

    Hi Paul
I did it yesterday immediately. The system creates an email with all information automatically.I send that on to the support.
I hope this is be helpful.

Do note, that this is not a support case. Do not expect replies on crash reports. To get support, create a support ticket.

    Patrick,
Please follow up with the case so we can get to the bottom of the issue.

I had a similar problem, C511 started up and did not respond anymore. Force quit. Repaired permissions twice, to no avail. Deleted col50 and restarted C1, that did the trick so far.

Why is it whenever Apple does system updates, everyone always updates right away, or turn off Auto OS updates.
If you OS is running fine, don't mess with it. Wait 3-5 weeks and let the rest of the masses test it and use it.

As a Digital Tech I have clients do this all the time, most of the time the day before a shoot.
I spend unproductive time trouble shooting different manufactures software the morning of the shoot.

Remember last year when Apple released a update that increased USB shooting speed and had a memory leak so the OS
would lockup, as it was eating up Ram, when it should have been releasing it after each capture.

The key to a stable operating system is when its running perfectly, Clone a copy of the boot drive as your backup.
So the next time you update the Mac OS/security updates, you know you have a way to get back to stability if something goes wrong.

Just like when I update Capture 1, I wait a bit before updating, or at least I add the version # ( Capture One 5.1 or 5.11)
at the end of the App name so that older Ver is never overidden when you drop it in the Applications folder.

A couple of great Apple site for waiting out software updates are here at Phone Ones Forums

I still restore my system to 10.6.2 and it runs very well (5.1.1). I hope Apple or P1 work on this issues and publish in a few time an update 😊 My recommendation, disable the MAC OS Update and wait still 3-5 Weeks that all software companies have time to fix all issues in the code.

    nice easter

I suppose thing is much more complicated. After 10.6.3 Adobe CS3 apps started to crash on launch. The problem is known to Apple and Adobe (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/834/cpsid_83499.html). Because my Mac has a new mainboard, I have no serial number and Photoshop Elements crashes on start. So I started to seek for some other program. I installed a Capture One 4 and 5 - both crash on start. I tried to use Sony apps for RAW files - the same. It's quite possible, that it's the same problem with all these apps. For start Patrik2 - check your system number in "About this mac". Of course you are right - we have to wait for some fix.

Did you do the 10.6.3 upgrade with the combo updater? I have found that to be the most stable way of updating. I am also betatester for a large audio soft- and hardware company and for that software which is considerably heavier and more complex than C1 I always have to update via the combo updater.
Thus I have updated to 10.6.3. via the combo updater and have had no problems (so far 😊) with C1 5.1.1

I made an update with combo package. This time, it's not a case of a way you make an update.

    hmmm…
had to get back to 10.6.2 ☹️
My MBP is apparently suffering from the "System Serial#" syndrom…
I bought it refurbished at the Apple online store, so I guess the logic board has been replaced…
I read on some other boards that the Sytem Serial number has to be flashed by an Apple tech when the logic board is replaced… hmm not that easy to send the MBP back to Apple!
What amazes me is that When I upgraded to 10.6.3 C1 5.1.1 did run perfectly! it started to crash 2 days ago only…
Are we really sure that this is the same problem that the one occurs with CS3 and 10.6.3?

With 10.6.2 my System serial is still "System Serial#" why did it work before and not anymore with the new OS?

    Nicolas,
I can't speak for the inner workings of the Mac OS 10.6.3 updater but the results are consistent across the board with this reported Mac OS issue. We can recreate it and Apple can fix it within 5 minutes.

    Hi Drew
As it is the same issue with CS3, I guess Apple won't patch it soon…
But maybe you mean the fix in 5 minutes by flashing the logic board to get a real system serial number?
    I won't send my MBP for such reason… ☹️

Sounds as Apple trying to address the serial number issue.

The update DOES NOT resolve the Serial Number issue from my tests this morning.

I´ve made an interesting discovery... i have a capture 5.1.1 that need to be activated and the computer runs 10.6.3 but every time it crashed during startup and a crash report dialog box appeared. But if i drag the application out of the application folder and but it anywhere else, it gets to the activation screen. If i try to activate it crashes, but if a accept the DB mode it starts up just fine. If i try to activate it from within the software, the crashing starts all over again.

Maybe there is a (permissions) problem with your application folder CO5 does not like. Did you ran repair permissions lately?
