    Hello all,

I'm a bit frustrated about missing lens profiles, especially third-party ones for the Nikon F mount. There are zero Tokina profiles and for the other third-party brands (such as Sigma, Tamron) the profiles are mostly for Canon EF.

We are always working to expand the Lens Profile database.
The 3rd party lenses are marked with a Mount-vendor, because that was the mount the profile was made with. However, optically, they are the same, and thus you can use it other mounts as well.

    Hi Christian,

In theory, I can imagine this could make sense. However, through analysis in C1 this isn't the case and doesn't give the best results. Some lens profiles doesn't alter this by a noticeable amount others it does. I am currently basing this off Nikon D810 and D850 bodies using Sigma art glass. One example is the Sigma 135mm f1.8 art. Using the Canon/Sigma 135mm f1.8 profile makes the image look slightly out of focus, compared to using the generic profile. I'm not sure if there is a reason for this?

I logged a support case in May 2017 for some more lens support for Nikon and 3rd party glass including Sigma art glass and Schneider Kreuznach for Nikon f bodies, including:
    Sigma 50mm f1.4 art
    Sigma 85mm f1.4 art
    Sigma 135mm f1.4 art

However, this case was closed yet none of the requested lenses have been added?

I have been using the Sigma art 50mm since Aug 2014. Since this time, every year a new release of Capture One Pro (4 new full releases) have been released with Capture One 8 (Sep 2014), Capture One 9 (Nov 2015), Capture One 10 (Dec 2016) and now Capture One 11 (Nov 2017). The only Sigma art lens for Nikon f mount is the 35mm f1.4 art?

I have been a certified professional since 2011 (using C1Pro since v4) and have upgraded every full release since C1 v6.

Just wondering if any of these lenses are in the planning stages for an update?

    Thanks

According to Sigma themselves they are indeed optically identical from mount to mount.
An image being out of focus cannot be caused by a lens profile for a normal rectangular lens like the 135.

The support case being closed is standard procedure, as the Support Team has done their part as putting forward the request.

    Hi Christian,

I would presume that the lenses would be the same, such as 135mm f mount compared 135mm EOS mount.

The issue isn't that the image is out of focus, perhaps my explanation wasn't clear.

Essentially, the easiest way I find to compare the profiles is to use variants.

I have an image that is in focus. Then make a variant, have the two variants at 100% side by side, one with generic profile the other with canon - sigma 135mm f1.8 profile. The image with the canon - sigma 135mm f1.8 profile looks to not be as sharp, or as much acuity. They are the same image, but the sigma 135mm profile makes the image look worse (compared to the generic profile). Hence my questioning whether it was because it was a canon profile as I don't have a Nikon - sigma 135mm f 1.8 profile to compare to.

Of course every lense has variations so I'm not sure whether this could be the issue as I'm not sure how the various lens profiles adjust the file.

In essence, I am hoping for the best looking file, automatically as a default. This makes a compelling case to upgrade to a new version of C1Pro every 12months.

Is there a specific reason why there are profiles for the canon mount and not the nikon, as this also means it doesn't automatically add the profile.

If there is something that I can do to improve this, please let me know.

    Cheers

I'm still not entirely sure what you mean. Are we talking about the distortion correction of lines or absolute sharpness? The 135 mm should have very little distortion, so the need to push pixels around will result in only a barely measurable loss of resolution (and that is not something the human eye can see).

The reason why the mount is mentioned is because of the autodetection. Each lens on a different mount will come up with a different lens-id, and thus it can't be autodetected. We are trying to get all mounts, but we do not always succeed. You are welcome to send us an image (a rawfile) through Support, if you have supported lenses, that are different mounts. Then we can add the detection (with some exceptions).

If Phase One knows that a 3rd party lens is identical between several lens mounts, why not just create copies of these lens profiles for all mounts? That would saves us all the hassle of having to assign the profile manually in each picture.

And a hassle it really is. I now have to "detect" which pictures were taken with which lens by performing a selection based on focal length. That is error prone because I have several lenses with overlapping zoom ranges. And for my Tokina lenses there's no profile at all.

I'm currently testing the new DxO software and I must say, their lens profiles are beautiful.

I think the answer is in the final paragraph of Christians post above yours.

From the way I read it it seems you can help yourself here should you wish to.
