My backup approach is to have everything on my Mac backed up by Time Machine, but also to use the backup catalog feature inside Capture One to back up the catalog. I don't store images inside the catalog.

    Well I don't know.

You are taking a big risk if you only use the C1 backup. It does NOT back up your images, only your adjustments, ratings etc.

Thanks, I know that and save the images in the folders, and this one with catalog and pics on a extern stick... But I like to understand if I made a mistake. I will delete all backups and make them new. W´ll see. Best regards, lars

The arrangement I use, and which seems quite efficient.

I find it is useful to have a clear plan like this.

I don't do double work - first organising the files by project and topic, then repeat the same organising with images in Capture One.

    /Users/eric/Pictures/2018_GX8 - all images from GX8 in 2018
    /Users/eric/Pictures/2017_GX8 - all images from GX8 in 2017
    /Users/eric/Pictures/2018_GM5 - all images from GM5 in 2018
    /Users/eric/Pictures/2017_GM5 - all images from GM5 in 2017
(about 30 or 40 of these - image file by year, by camera)

    /Volumes/SSD1/CaptureOne11/Catalogs - all catalogs from CaptureOne 11
    /Volumes/SSD1/CaptureOne10/Catalogs - all catalogs from CaptureOne 10
    /Volumes/SSD1/CaptureOne9/Catalogs - all catalogs from CaptureOne 9
    • (External SSD for Capture One
    • The catalog files contain no image files (except thumbnails and previews)
    • Images are arranged by projects and albums according to project, topic, event and person
    • Typically 4 or 5 catalogs only:
      • Main
      • Incoming
      • catalogs for special projects (2)
      • For Testing

/Volumes/PhotoBU/Images - image files are backed up here by Capture One on importing images
/Volumes/PhotoBU/Catalogs - Catalog files are backed up here by Capture One on closing a catalog
(external hard drive for photography backup)

    /Volumes/TimeMachineBU
(backing up /Users/eric -- changed files are backed up hourly by Time Machine)

If one updates a catalogue from one version to another (or more precisely when a significant change in catalogue data structure is introduced - and that may be within a version once in a while) Capture One automatically creates a copy of the pre-existing catalogue before converting its contents to the new structure.

That activity is nothing to do with the Catalogue backup facility.

However as it is saved in side the catalogue data structure (AFAIK) it will, presumably, become part of the Backup activity that IS managed by the Backup facility.

Is that what is being discussed here?

What happened was a new structure in the backups. For I don´t know what happened I´m afraid about my pics could be get a problem. So it would be fine to understand, what was happened.
Now all backups are new (only the latest change), maybe twelf smale folders. My system is more simple: Mainfolder-year, folders for projects or the month I started with it. So twelf folders are in the backups now (no year folder). In some of them is only the cocatalogdb, in some is added a folder: cache, in others only one: adjustment. All projects have changed pics by C1. Whatever.
I hope now, that there not come again some folders, named with date, time, including copys of the pics. Hope it was the last lesson for me with organisation of C1. Thanks for help, lars
