Speed increase, CPU vs GPU
It's funny to even ask this. 😂
Which will give me more of a increase in performance, a new video card (nVidia 4xx) or a new processor (Intel i5 2500K or phenom ii 6xcore 1060T)?
I plain on upgrading both, but If I had to choose right now, which one would be a better boost for Capture One 6.1?

My guess would be both and throw in an SSD if your budget allows. 😊
I did just before the "Sandy Bridge" CPUs came out. My latest build includes an i7-870 and AMD 5770. Now I am thinking about the NVidia GT 430 or GTX 460 since the AMD route seems to be very "bumpy" right now. Money (> $200) wasted to say the least.
What hardware configuration do you have now?0 -
The AMD 5770 is much faster than the 430. Using 6.1 you should have no "scrambled previews", and the interactive performance using the 5770 should be fairly good.

Remember the "performance" is often biased. If you want faster "process to file" buy a new CPU. If you want faster "interaction speed" - ie. update of the image when you adjust the sliders buy a decent GPU.

But again - the best investment will be an SSD disk (in raid).

This may be ever so slightly off topic, but I think I have been left behind by graphics card technology, probably because I come from a mainly text based software development background so I never bothered much about the graphics performance.
Can someone give me a rough idea as to where I stand with my current graphics card, and what I might gain from any upgrade of the graphics. I currently have an NVIDIA 9800GT with 1G memory. My machine has an Intel Core i7 860 processor.0
