Thethered Canons in Vista 64?
What am I missing? Trying to get an old 20D to tether with CO 5.2 Pro on a Vista 64 machine.
So my research shows that Canon does not support 64 bit OSs with camera drivers and I am not having any luck.
I use some 20Ds at events tethered so if they disappear or hit the floor or something it is not such a loss. Works fine with EOS Utility to tether them on XP 32 machines, but I would like to have more horsepower on hand and use a machine with Vista 64, but so far no-go.
And why would it make sense for Canon to not support 64 bit OSs? The whole reason I went to 64 bit was to get support for more RAM.

There is indeed no Win x64 support for older Canon models like the 20D. Incompatible technologies that's what I call them. Unfortunate but true.
Do you perhaps have a Windows 32-bits OS like WinXP lying somewhere (the CD)? One workaround is to create virtual machine on your Vista machine. Look for virtualization software that virtualizes the USB port. You connect the Canon 20D to the virtual machine and tether. After the shoot you can move the files to the physical Vista machine or any other machine you like.0 -
Thanks Paul.
I do have some parts and pieces and OSs about, so I will just build up a box for this scenario.
I have laptops that would do, but I have only found one laptop with a screen to suit me and I hate to bang it around dragging it around to events.0
