Hardware Acceleration doesn't work...?
Windows 10 Pro x64
Intel i7 6800K @ 3.4Ghz
64Gb RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070
250Gb WD SSD for all software
I've just upgraded from 10 to 12.
HA worked in 10, but it isn't working in 12.
All drivers are up to date.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Maybe not enough RAM on your GPU card? 0 -
That should be plenty of RAM! 8GB !!
I have the same problem and have been told by support to delete the .xml file from
C:\ProgramData\Phase One\Capture One\ImageCore folder and restart the program.
Give it a try!
For me that did not help and now they have said to do a complete new installation wiping everything! I have had no time yet to go through that process as I do need to backup my workspaces and other settings.
It seems to be a bug which started somewhere in version 11.0 -
I have a 1080 ti with 11gb of ram. It's as fast as my AMD 7950 when using CO 11 and now 12. I have mentioned this to CO too and I got the usual replies to delete files and to do a complete reinstall. The bottom line is that Hardware acceleration is broken, and for a while too. They recommend buying the fastest video card and so I did, but it hasn't helped. Works great playing Doom though!

How do you know it totally isn't working - has performance nosedived? Does the Settings dialog say HA isn't happening? 0 -
There are log file entries that should give some indication of success or failure in assessing the OpenCL assessment.
It is also possible to force re-assessment and a rebuild of the kernel required for the GPU to function.
Maybe check the log files first?

According to the instructions and testing, Open Cl and hardware acceleration are working. I have rebuilt the kernel many times with the same results. The bottom line from my perspective is CO doesn't really use the full power of a high end graphics card. I was so disappointed to actually see that my 1080 ti was no faster than my ancient AMD 7950.
Hopefully they will address this eventually.

Paul,
I think things are a bit more nuanced than that.
To my understanding it is not simply a matter of throwing all processing as a GPU. GPUs are not designed to be efficient for all processing requirements. Indeed their target market is not really still image processing. It just happens that in the right circumstances they can be rather useful for some parts of the processing to enhance throughput - providing the processing required is suitable and the host system configuration can feed the data fast enough to keep the card occupied.
Batch processing a large number of files for output is the most likely place to be able to see potential gains.
Is the 250gb SSD your C drive?
If so what data transfer speeds does it offer. Or, perhaps more importantly, what does it achieve?

Try this:
1. Close Capture One
2. go to the following folder (it's hidden, so you'll have to let Windows display hidden folders and files):
C:>ProgramData>Phase One>Capture One
3. Delete the folder "ImageCore", that'll force CaptureOne to re-evaluate your GPU.
4. Restart CaptureOne0 -

Deleting the folder does not work either.
The setting in the preferences is just not remembered. So it will never work until Phase One fixes the issue! That won't happen for version 11 now. Which is rather annoying.
Support will always say reinstall, I have had so many issues but reinstalling never solved the problem.
Raising a new ticket with support gets you noticed and one day someone will take it seriously.
Just my experience.0 -

Are you saying that the log file indicates that the GPU assessment failed?
What do you mean by "The setting in the preferences is just not remembered."? Which setting?
You may need to seek out new compatible drivers for your GPU, preferably directly from the vendor of the GPU technology. However finding the right one might be a moving target as they change quite frequently and I have also find they can appear to split off in different directions even though in theory each only one direction is supported for a given card model and version.
In addition there is no certainty that a given 'update' is going to improve anything in one's particular situation nor even that it will work at all. Sometimes earlier releases of GPU drivers seem to work better than the most recent ones - a not uncommon problem with software in a multi-vendor melting pot situation.
HTH.

If this is the case, then Phase One should know which driver set they used to test the Open CL with V11 and V12 and let us know. Here is what Phase One recommends:
Recommended system requirements
Dual graphics cards from the same provider, i.e. NVIDIA or AMD with 4GB+ RAM per card.
Their silence speaks volumes on this matter.
I think CO has been neglected for the past several years. The updates are mere bug fixes with a couple of features added, but nothing meaningful. I think they've been spending their resources in the hardware area and not the software. Too bad. I'm already looking at alternatives to CO.

Paul,
This is a comedy post, right?

I paid $1000 for an Nvidia 1080 Ti solely for the purpose of using it with CO because CO says that it would improve the programs performance. You can imagine my disappointment when it performed no better than my AMD 7950. I wasn't laughing when I discovered this. I even setup a case report with CO and all I got an Oh well!! I believe I wasn't laughing then either. Unfortunately, it appears others are having the same issue.
So no, I don't believe I was trying to be funny. I've been using CO since version 7 and I truly believe that Phase One hasn't really listening to us users since V11.
Hope this clarifies my comments.

Well I am surprised you are asking!? I really expected people who imply to know what they are talking about to know that!?
You should go to Edit > Preferences and then under hardware acceleration(UseOpenCL for):
You can choose between Display and processing. There you can Choose between Auto and Never
Those boxes always revert to: never!
But my GPU is fine with DAVINCI Resolve 15 and Photoshop and other programs.
But not with Capture ONe 11 or 12! nothing to do with drivers unless Phaseone is not bothered testing it properly or really researching the complaints they get.0 -

David,
That's unusual.
The default setting would normally be Auto.
I suspect that is why the question was asked.
I have never seen a problem with the stickiness of the setting and I suspect that NNN635018233259472077 has not either, hence the request for clarification.

Just my twenty cents worth....
Just upgraded and noticed hardware acceleration didn 't work when it had on V10 and 11
Graphics card : Nvidia GT 430
PC: WIndows 10 (auto updated)
A quick google on the net convinced me to try a re install of the Nvdia Graphics drivers and this seems to have fixed
the problem. (some comments about a windows update messing things up!)
YMMV

I was a software engineer for about 30 years, using Windows the whole time. I told myself that when I got out of the business I'd go all in on Apple and forget about the endless problems of the Windows ecosystem, where there are 1,000 cooks in the kitchen and no one can really say what will work with what, or how well, or who's to blame when it doesn't.
But I didn't do that and now I'm like you, wondering what video card I should get for the new PC I just bought, what performance improvements I might see, how much I should spend, and what I'll do if the whole thing just blue-screens and doesn't work.0 -

Any Nvidia or AMD product will work well. I would not hesitate to buy either. I bought the 1080 ti because Phase One said I should buy the most powerful video card I could afford, and so I did! The only advise I would say is ensure that the software you're using utilizes the full power of the graphics card, otherwise, you will be spending money needlessly. Doom rocks on my machine and even my kid gave me a WOW! I have every bell and whistle enabled and it still rocks, so I know how powerful it is. Crashes when playing it in 4K! LOL
BTW, I think Windows 10 is the best OS I've used and the most versatile! My son had a MacBook Pro and the first thing he did was put Windows on it!! I said why, and he told me that the Mac is limited in software selection.
Hope this helps.
