P65+ with HP 8740W / Win7-x64
hey guys,
i recently bought my laptop HP 8740W i7-920XM (3.2 GHz) with 16Gb ram. running WIndows7 x64.
I tried connecting to P65+ and it either connects (1 of out 60 times) and if it does connects, it says camera error, asyncro error. I installed v5.2 C1
the camera detects fine with the onboard and 3rd party 6pin expresscard.
what gives?
i am thinking of either getting these.
SIIG FireWire 800 ExpressCard54
RoHS-compliant
Chipset: Ti XI02213AZAY
Compliant with IEEE 1394b & backward compatible with 1394a-2000 and 1394-1995 standards
Supports serial bus data transfer rates of 100, 200, 400, 800 Mbps
Supports isochronous and asynchronous data transfer modes
Hot-swapping allows you to connect/detach devices without first turning your system off
An optional power adapter can be purchased through SIIG online store
Dimensions: 4 5/8" x 2 1/8" x 9/16"
or should i get this?
FireWire 800 2-Port ExpressCard/34
Compliant with IEEE 1394b & backward compatible with 1394a-2000 and 1394-1995 standards
Chip: Texas Instruments Ti XIO2213BZAY
Supports serial bus data transfer rates up to 800Mb/s
Supports isochronous and asynchronous data transfer modes
Hot-swapping allows you to connect/detach devices without first turning your system off
An optional power adapter can be purchased through SIIG online store
RoHS compliant
Dimensions: 4.8125" x 1.375" x 0.6875"
question is I tried a generic firewire expresscard and the mini-firewire is built in.
the camera doesnt turn on.
I believe that my onboard firewire doesnt have power for the firewire.
1) do i have to get a power adapter for the SIIG cards?
2) will it work this time? no i wont buy a macbook pro.
3) do i return the p65+?

The mini (4pin) firewire Windows machines and in particular HP is so fond of does indeed not provide power to the peripheral device. Can it provide in its own power?
Also, see my post from yesterday here in the forum of what might be a similar issue with the Windows firewire driver with > 4GB RAM.

You wrote one of the best documented posts here by the way. Kudos.0 -
so do i still need to get a TI firewire chipset or my current VIA firewire chipset will work?
if a TI chipset is required. which chipset will work? or either chipset?0 -

Not able to advise at this detailed level. Best to contact your dealer or Phase One support directly. They are way more experienced here.0 -
thx paul.
I was kinda hoping that this was the technical support forum.
my dealer doesnt have a clue.0 -

This is a user-to-user forum, moderated by Phase One. You're always welcome to share and ask, but fortunately Phase One has a support staff available as well.0 -
Hi,
I just wanted to let you know I'm using a P65+ with a windows7(64bit) computer, and am running it though a firewire card. I can't get to the card right now to double check it's specs, but I wanted to let you know it IS possible, and don't return the P65+, it's an excellent piece of gear.
We've got the back connected to a Hassleblad H2, though that doesn't make a difference since it's the DB the card talks with.
A big stumbling block was getting the right drivers installed. Does the device manager see the P65 at all?
I'll get those firewire specs up here as soon as I can.

I haven't seen a support case from the OP yet but can suggest the following;
http://www.siig.com/ViewProduct.aspx?pn=NN-EC2012-S1
with http://www.siig.com/ViewProduct.aspx?pn=NN-ADA011-S1
Although I have not tested this specific component on the previously mentioned system, given my track record with SIIG products and Windows 7 64 bit I think it will do the trick.0
