    Hi Bobg,
Welcome to the forum and the world of Capture One 5. I distilled multiple questions from your post, and will try to answer them.

First, there are two auto start mechanisms on connecting camera or memory card. The first is the start of CO5, which is controlled by Image Capture, a OS X program. For detailed instructions please specify your version of OS X. Second, starting the CO5 import dialog is controlled by the program's preferences.

How the CO5 import dialog handles multiple image folders on your card, I can not tell you due to lack of experience with such a configuration.

The manual is a start. More and very good instruction can be found online on Phase One website. You find the link in the CO5 Welcome screen. Start the Welcome screen from the Help menu.

Thanks for directing me to Image Capture settings. I now have my system set to open Capture One upon mounting a flash card volume.

I remain puzzled by the way that the import process seems blocked by the fact that my flash card images are contained within folders/directories on the card. I will try it again...

And thank you for the welcome! I am still very impressed and gratified by the quality of the C1 conversions and look forward to learning all about the adjustment capabilities.
