Colour difference in screen/output

Hello,

I see a huge difference in colour between the image as shown in the viewer and the converted image (tiff) when viewed in other programs. It is like the icc profile is applied twice on the image in the viewer i.e. colour is very saturated. Am I missing a setting in CO 4.6 that should be set different?

Base characteristics icc profile is set to Olympus E-3 Generic (which is the camera used).

I work on a Win XP machine with a calibrated screen and am an experienced user of other raw converters.

    Maybe you can shed some more light on the 'other programs' you view your output files with and their settings (if applicable) and your CO4 output profile parameters.

    A common failure, in particular in WinXP, is that you output your image into a Jpeg or Tiff with a larger workspace then sRGB, (like AdobeRGB) or embed the camera profile. Next, you view your image in a not or not well color managed program like the Windows image viewer, a browser or a bunch of other nifty programs. Color then appears washed out and the image has a low contrast.

    Thanks Paul,

    Output profile is sRGB and the colours of the output files (converted with default settings) are ok and do not look washed out when viewed in Faststone image viewer or PSP XI or PS Elements.

    It's just not "what you see is what you get" ☹️

    Paul....as an aside that might have bearing on this....I remember early on with V4 reading on this forum that V4 did not use ICC version 4 monitor profiles...and at that point I generated a version2 monitor profile that was dead on. I realize the V's are confusing here, and I was not using V4 enough at that time to define a problem....but I recall a slight difference in some files, none now..

    Is there a way to check which monitor profile 4.6.1 is using? I liked being able to check that in 3.7.

    It looks like the problem is solved. I updated the monitor calibration app and then recalibrated the screen. I see the same colour in CO 4.6 as in my other PP apps now.

    Hi,

    I'm having the same problem. Capture One does not use the monitor profile. I habe installed the latest software version for my Spyder2express (version 2.3.6) and created a new profile. I updated Capter One to version 4.6.3, but still it's not working.

    If I switch my monitor profile to sRGB, restart my computer, start Capture One, switch back to the Spyder2express profile (and run the spyder software to load the profile), then the photos are displayed correctly in Capture One, but only until the next restart of my computer, so that's not really an option.

    Any suggestions?

    Annoying: the proof profile does not stick. After every restart of C1 I have to set to default (i.e. "Select Output Profile").
    And it's unbelivable that C1 does not display the monitor profile loaded - at least as info entry (if not even changeable).

    I have the Spyder 2, works under Windows XP SP3 as follows;

    The Spyder loader program starts up when I start-up Windows, it loads the profile in the Graphics card driver and my colour managed programs all use that profile.

    Well, I think it was my fault. C1 seems to be correct, and I'm a bit confused now. I have to lern about color management and monitor calibration now...

    I am having the exact same issue, and Capture One is the only software I am using that this is happeneing with.
    I am unable to upgrade to XP Pro service pack 3 for some reason Windows get 99% of the way through the upgrade and then bombs. I have spent hours on the phone with Microsoft and the situation has not been resolved. So I am not able to upgrade my version of Capture One.

    However from what I have read upgrading may not fix the issue anyway. I would really appreciate any help too because this issue will prevent my studio from staying with Capture One since we are upgrading all of our cameras and will not be able to use the older 3.XX version of Capture that does not have this issue.

    However there is nothing to solve in C1; it's a problem of calibration software and system settings.
    Regardless the fact that it would be very usefull to see the monitor profile loaded in C1; preferable switchable as well.

    hi all

    first I was also not sure, especially if the output is a jpg. but I right now tested it. output color space Adobe 1998. the output file a 5D MkII 16bit tiff and I changed fast between PS CS4 and C1 v4.8.1 back and forth. Actually I do not see any noticable color change.

    My monitor is calibrated to 6500°, Gamma 2.2 and Adobe RGB 1998. Monitor profile is made with Spyder 3 Elite. CRT 19'' monitor.

    But sometimes I see a difference in the jpg's.

    thats my experiences in this kind of problem.

I tried capture one pro and when I import the photos I see the program is applying some kind of worm filter, anyway the photos looks good, when I retouch them they look even better but when saving them, no mather which way, I tried different settings, the photo looks much different, not so colorful, not so crisp and not good at all. So, how to save the photo as I see it in the program?

    I suggest you provide more details about your workflow, software and color management settings. In particular the program you view the output and compare the Capture One viewer against.

    Well it's difficult for me to explain, it's not my computer, I think it's not even calibrated, but I don't think that matter because I'm not printing or anything, I would just like to save the photo as I see it in the CO. So as I said as soon as I open a photo in CO it looks good, different from other image browsers, it's sharp, with nice worm colors, good details, it's really good, then I can apply some other things that CO can do and the photo looks really good. Then I save it (I tried adobe rgb and srgb) and whereever I open it, Photoshop, Adobe Bridge, Faststone, Picassa,... it looks the same, not so good, its washed, bright, with no detail and no worm color.

    How some one can call software with fix setup professional? I do have attached four monitors with different profiles but C1 can not use any of this. Why program not professional cheep can do this. Profile is just a file what a big deal to read from one or other or maybe big for C1 programmers. As I mentioned in email C1 totally ignore customers need. I was asking for support more then one monitors few years ago, support GPS few years ago etc, and now I am using more often Photoshop.
