Raw conversion very slow
I created a case with this issue a couple of days ago, but got no answer:
I just downloaded the trial version of Capture one. Performances are very slow. It takes a solid 25 minutes to process a single image from raw to jpeg. file is a .orf from my Olympus E330.
This is my first use of the product, I did not select any fancy option, using the defaults just changed the white balanced, the exposure, and started the processing. I tried other images with similar results.
Is it normal? I compare with other software that would take only a few seconds or maximum a minutes with Adobe ACR or Olympus Master.
I have a laptop PC with Windows XP SP2. processor pentium 2.13 GHz and 2GB memory. So it is not the faster system, but not a very old one either.
I have checked that no other significant program is running. Capture pro is using 90 to 98% of cpu time according to windows process management tool.
Please let me know if I should expect better results or if it is normal?
Is it a know problem?
Thanks.

Processing should be in terms of seconds to one minute for an E330 image. Which process is utilizing 90-98% processor time during image processing: 'CaptureOne.exe' or 'ImgCoreProcess.exe'? It should be the latter one.
If you want you can let other users process an image; you have to make an .orf downloadable, to rule out the image as the culprit.
About your processor: sounds more like a Core(2)Duo or Single processor, not Pentium. Makes a big difference. What does the General tab of System Properties (go My Computer, right click, Properties) report?0 -

as a side note - install SP3 and check that you have all .NET framework service packs installed0 -
Thanks Paul and Dee for your detailed feed back.
The problem disappeared magically, it now take 35 sec to process an image, big difference!
I cannot remember changing anything on the system, may be a reboot, not even sure. As I don't know what was the problem I am afraid it will come back someday, one more computer mystery...
I now have other sorts of problems that I will describe in a new thread.
Is XP3 a requirement? I don't like making big changes like that on my computer when everything else works!

SP3 might be necessary to keep your Win/XP protected from some malware/viruses/etc...0 -
Ok thanks for the advice I will think about it... 0 -
The slowness came back today. I converted 3 images ok at the 4th one it took for ever again.
As suggested by Paul I looked at which process uses all the cpu time it is CaptureOne.exe which takes 98% of CPU time ImgCoreProcess.exe only get a few percent by time to time.
When capture one is idle the CaptureOne.exe process uses 40% of the CPU time, this doesn't look normal to me.
I got the information : processor pentium 2.13 GHz and 2GB memory
from the properties of "my computer"
thanks in advance,

Antoine,
The ImgCoreProcess.exe should do the process work but it apparently does not get the opportunity to do that due to high CPU utilization of CaptureOne.exe. Does the situation improve after reboot and (re)start of the process queue?
Don't know what to do next. Reinstall the program (remove first). Do you use 4.6 (on Mac 4.6.1 is not stable, prefer 4.6 for that reason, don't know about Win)?
Otherwise, create a support case.
Just curious how old your system is (no offense). A 2.13 GHz pentium sounds like 5 years old? Should work though.0 -
I use the last version downloaded from the phaseone web site 2 weeks ago, It is the 4.6.
My system is about 3 years old I believe.
I will try to reboot to see if it changes but it might disappear and come later.

The most common cause of not getting an answer is that the mail notification ended up in the user's junk mailbox. Best to open your case from the web site to see whether it has a reply.0 -
How do I view a previous ticket. I am on the phaseone support page, I am logged in. I see nothing like a link to previous cases?

After login, and on suppport page, see the button at the right 'Contact Support' as if you were going to create a new one. On the 'Create Support Case' page, button left below 'My Cases'.0 -
Hummm.
I am on the "-> SUPPORT -> Create Support Case" page.
There is a form to fill with the following information:
"Select your registerd product
Operating system
Software
Camera Body
Phase One Digital Back
Lens / Accessory
Subject"
On the right bottom there is a big green "next" button.
Is this the right page?
On the left I see 4 zones:
"Capture One FAQ
Documentation
Tutorials
Digital back dealers
Capture One dealers"
But nothing like "my cases".
Did I miss something?

That is the right page, but maybe the button My Cases does not show up because there are none to show. Best to create a new case when you still in the mood. 0 -
I tried to log a new case but got the message:
"Error !
The error has been logged and System Administrator has been notified.
We apologize for the inconvenience."
Not so good....0 -

I have this problem from time to time with my Olympus orf files. If I shut down, then come back again, so does the normal process time.
Cheers,

I would like to encourage users who experience this behavior to open a support case with Phase One. Sounds like something to be looked after by their development team. Relevant note is whether a program restart or a computer restart is necessary to bring things up to speed again.0 -
I have reinstalled my PC from scratch with Windows XP SP3. Basically the problem of computing being slow disappeared.
Now when processing an image it takes around 20 seconds, only the imgCoreProcess is running using 98% cpu time. I believe this is the normal behavior.
I am afraid the problem did not disappeared completely because just one time I have seen the CaptureOne.exe process take 20 to 30% cpu during the processing. It is identical to the problem before reinstalling Windows. In this case the all processing only took 2 minutes, it was up to 30 minutes before.
I was not able to reproduce the issue so far nor to fing any correlation with other tools.
Thanks to anyone who tried to help.

Reinstalling your system from scratch is a courageous thing to do but necessary (and rewarding) every now and then. Thanks for reporting back. 0
