HEIC?
I'm just a *little* disappointed that CP11 doesn't yet support Apple's HEIC (HEIF) format.
I know you can't comment on the timing, but can you at least tell us if you plan to support HEIC sometime in the future?
cheers
Gregory

It's actually not Apple's format, it's a standard: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Effi ... ile_Format
I'm a little disappointed that Phase One didn't pick this up either (as an output option). It's today's analog to yesterday's JPEG and offers more efficient compression at very similar (or the same) quality.0 -
I feel HEIC will take even longer for everyone to switch over compared to USB-C 😁 0 -

I don't see how. HEIC can be supported purely through a software update. You can't use a software update to roll out USB-C.0 -

Yes, easy to roll out but not necessarily adopt.
It has to do with tangible benefit or seeing is believing.
How many times have you had to flip the USB cable to the correct orientation?
Remember USB A & B, micro A & B, mini A & B? 😉
All easily remedied by one cable type now.
The average user aren't compelled to use HEIC over JPG because they don't have that annoying history like USB. Neither do they see the full size benefit if they just casually snapping photos.0 -
Am I the only one that has learned to plug DVI and USB cables in the dark first-try? 0 -
Apple engineers are persuading iOS users to adopt HEIC, not because of the photo format but because of the video format. Video files are getting bigger and bigger, and being able to use HEVC (video) is a god-send, but apple engineers have not separated the choice of using HEIC and HEVC in iOS on iPhones. i.e., if you want to use HEVC, you also need to use HEIC.
Every iPhone owner with an iPhone 8 or newer has the ability to use HEVC and HEIC.
So, there will be many *many* iOS users switching to HEIC.0 -

Exactly. Plus, the average user is compelled by the fact that it will save space on their device while retaining the same or close to the same image quality.
BTW, if you think USB-C is the dream and one cable fixes everything, you probably haven't used it much. Give this a read and you'll see that there's a lot about USB-C that isn't that good at the moment: https://marco.org/2017/10/14/impossible-dream-of-usb-c0 -

That's really just a vague doomsday blog post that anyone can whip up. Life is too short to be thinking of every problematic scenario. USB-C is not the norm yet...changing pain. Can only imagine it will be easier to move my accumulated USB-C stuff to "USB-D" when it comes but why even think that far ahead now?
Using a Caldigit TS3, my USB-A / C and Thunderbolt 3 cables are color coded with Velcro cable ties.
What usb-c problems are you having so we can help?0 -

unfortunately, at least for photos, it might not be fact. a few comparisons of jpeg and HEIC have been published that show higher noise in low light areas with HEIC. I wouldn't use HEIC just yet except that I really want to use HEVC.0 -

My problem with USB-C is that I have over a dozen USB-# drives (using the old USB connector) that will not work if I buy a computer with only USB-C. That will force me to invest money to either replace the drives or buy adapters. Doubt anyone will be willing to contribute 😉
In my case, my drives tend to remain attached to the system so I don't need to worry about which way around the connector goes. And really, finding the right way to insert the connector takes all of 2-3 seconds. Hardly a big reasons for a connector re-design.
As for HEIC, my worry is that it will replace 'jpeg' and leave people with large number of unreadable photos and cameras that are also unusable because they only create photos in jpeg format. For many people who don't use make videos, the negatives could outweigh the positives.0
