Session to Catalog workflow question:
I import my personal photos into a standard session and modify them with my usual adjustments, metadata, keywords, etc.
I maintain a couple of catalogs, one of them is "my best stuff".
When I'm back in that session, I drag the "best" .ARW files into a different storage folder and then synchronize my catalog to that storage folder, the images get right to where I want them...Andy's happy.
But why does the catalog recognize the adjustments I made back in the session? Is the catalog accessing history left behind in the session? Or are the adjustments recorded in the raw file? They are not EIP files. Thanks for any insight that someone can provide.

Amendment to original post:
I REALLY like working in Capture One. Here's what flummoxes me: it makes a couple of sub-folders inside of the standard folders, and I have no idea what they do:
Sessions/Working Session/Capture/CaptureOne/Cache/Proxies
Sessions/Working Session/Capture/CaptureOne/Cache/Thumbnails
Sessions/Working Session/Capture/CaptureOne/Settings100
Once I move my raw images from session to catalog, do I need those folders? Does the catalog access those folders left behind in the session?
Thanks

Andy,
The subfolder are the edit information (Settings folder(s) )and the proxies for Preview and Thnumbnails for the Browser.
If there are substantial changes to the editing features a new Settings folder may be created and the old one retained for posterity and use with older version of C1 should you feel the need to do that. Settings100 is for version 10 standards.
Setting folder contain the XML (.cos) files for all of the edits for each original file including all variants of it. You may also see .comask files it you have used local layers adjustments. If you use dedicated .ICC profiles and other things they will also be in a folder somewhere.
If you move you source image within C1 - to the "Selects" folder for example - C1 will take the edits, etc as well. (An EIP file is the same thing used for exporting and and sharing files complete with the edit information should you meed to do so.)
When you import to a catalogue you have the option to include previous edit work or not. And of course you can get rid of the edits and metadata later if you don't want it for some reason.
The catalogue load will not automatically remove the session but it will take the edits that exist and add them to the catalogue data structure. Once there Catalogue and Session edits lead separate lives unless you choose to re-import/export from time to time but I doubt that many people will do that often.
HTH.
