Organising by capture time?

I was under the impression that sorting by date already did this. "date" being something of a misnomer because I am pretty sure it includes time and date. You would just need to be sure that the time/date on the cameras was synced up fairly well. Have you found this not to be the case?

All of my cameras are synced as close as possible but what im finding is that by sorting by date it separates the images by camera and then by time so it still doesn't merge all the images into the correct timeline and I end up with three groups of images instead. I know this sounds just like the cameras aren't synced but ive double checked them and one was around a minute out from the others but over a 12 hour shoot I would still expect them to be pretty close

    Interesting feedback on the conflict.
The sort by "Date" should be doing what you're asking. But, if you have a collection of multiple cameras with the dates slightly askew I would be quite interested to see a collection of 20 or so that shows the "Camera First-Date Second" order, as the camera should be disregarded and only the date/time sorted.

If you can create a support case and provide a group of files I'd like to take a look, you can address' it to me and I'll pick it up monday.

Where did my posts on this issue in this thread go?

They were deleted, as were Doug's.
They weren't constructive and it seemed to be heading down a rabbit hole.

I've asked you on several occasions to keep posts constructive and to the point. Many are, and they are happily left in there place as we do appreciate your contributions. However those that are not, will simply be deleted. Simple.

    Drew...
I think the first post was extremely useful.
It gave the OP an alternative to resolve the problem he has.
The OP probably has hundreds of images that he can't synchronize by time.
I know what it is like to try and edit and with hundreds of images even if everything is in sync.
It becomes a nightmare when out of sync cameras become an issue.

For this particular problem he has he should work with Lightroom as he would be able to sync the cameras and shift times with no problem.

I came back to the thread after doing some further research as I was trying to find a very nice utility
that he could use in Lightroom to process his work in Capture One that I did not have on the computer I was working on.

    It is called Open Directly.

So to tackle his current problem he could use Lightroom to sort and pick the photos and then very easily
open them directly in Capture One.

The OP can solve his problem (unsynced cameras) and still comfortably edit in Capture One.

This is a very helpful tool and could also help a lot for anyone adding Capture One to his or her photo processing workflow.
A new Capture One user could start with just processing in Capture One and then learn the DAM aspect of it a little later.

As for the deleted posts I think it would be far more useful to the USERS to restore the first of the two posts you deleted.
It was a long and thought out post. It only went down the rabbit hole thanks to Doug Peterson who accused me claiming my post was almost entirely incorrect... you and I know that was not the case.

Open directly would also be a very useful stepping stone from Aperture to Capture One for those either adding Capture One or transitioning.

There is nothing wrong with using multiple software in post. Thanks to the now very low pricers of both Capture One and Lightroom it is perfectly feasible for most to own and use both.

    Here is another possible solution.

Capture One can import both jpeg and RAW (as well as a few other formats)

The OP could open all his raws in Lightroom.
Apply the capture time correction to the out of sync photos.
Then export JPEG files from lightroom, but renaming the files with a sequence of numbers
from 1 to x. Then drop these into Capture One and sort by name.

The OP could then display only jpegs and make his selections.

One the selections had been made he could display all files sorting by date.
The files would be diplayed out of rider again, but all the jpeg files would be next to the corresponding PAW files that he
    would them process.

Another solution would be to use exif tool, a command line exif editor and see if it could edit all the time references in the original RAW files. Best to do this with copies of the RAW files.

I'm sure the in the near future Phase One will be able to add some time correction and shifting tools.

One more thought. Is a time shift or correction available in Media Pro?
The OP could use it there to stay in Phase One apps.

    Cheers for the advice.

I must admit I dont want to have to use lightroom for my sorting im trying to move away from my adobe subscription and also the process of using multiple programs just complicates things.

Drew, ill try and create a support case over the weekend as ive just imported a second wedding and its done the same.

I'm not suggesting it long term. Just suggesting it to solve your current problem.

IF you can upload a RAW file or send it to me I can try to adjust the time stamp and send you instructions how to do it to your other files to synchronize your cameras. You would just have to tell me the offset you need.

exif tool might be able to edit the normally locked file creation time.
