V4.1
Heard V 4.1 is in beta. Is it available to public for beta?

that's interesting 0 -
It should be noted that the 645AF Camera should be available in June with C1 - they would surely they would want to ship a £15,000 camera with the Pro version? 0 -
The final version will be available publicly soon.
When it comes to the Phase One 645AF it will ship with both Capture One 3.7.8 and 4.10 -
will the Pro version follow suit? 0 -
I think the fact that the 645AF camera ships with both 3. and 4. versions of C1 is proof enough that their software is not ready for prime time. Why would a company ship an old version of their software if they are trying to convince us that their new version is so great? 0 -

Not uncommon in the business. Buy a new Windows computer just after launch of a new OS, and you find both available on the disk (even one and a half year after Vista is launched, some computer manufacturers deliver both XP and Vista for reasons of compatibility).0 -
What manufacturer is sending you a Vista and XP disk when you buy a PC? None of the ones I have bought (Over 300 in the last 2 years) came with 2 CD's. If you buy a Vista CD from a computer store does MS throw in a XP Cd just in case? I don't think so.
Paul, I know you are the one person who backs up everything Phase One has done with v4 and makes excuses for their bad decisions but let's be honest. As a user of C1 since v1 the latest version is unusable to a lot of us. They should have brought it out as a different product because it is nothing like v3. It is not worth even debating. I only stop by this site now and again to see if Phase One as brought out a version which restored the features of C1 that made it the best workflow around but alas there is nothing from Phase One so I am trying out new software in preparation of abandoning C1. Sad.0 -
I agree with Paul
I have had Compaq, HP and Dell laptops which had both Win2k and XP. On first boot you choose which image it will apply on the disk.
If you go in and look at Dell right now you can choose between XP and Vista on the machines.
So lets put this aside and focus on CO4.1
There is some features which some photographer find critical while other do not which are not yet implemented like Color Editor, Overlay tool, multiple image and destination processing, watermarking etc etc (Note some of the features are Mac only on CO3)
CO4.1 however does offer some tools the CO3 does not, such as Variants, Saturation controller which has vibrance functionality, lens correction tool, frame capture for focus during shooting etc etc etc.
The aim is to have the the features on pair but there is features missing and this is why we are not calling it a PRO yet. We are getting closer. We are aware that CO4 has been quite a bit delayed but because we have done the framework properly we can now implement features faster then we ever would with CO3.
On my own part I am looking forward to have sessions in the Windows version like you have in CO3 on Mac when this by far make organizing shoots much easier.0 -

Does this mean that 4.1 will be a free upgrade for registered users?
I'm glad that Ulf acknowledges the delays that have occurred. However, though I belong in the 'generally satisfied user of C1v4' category, I also believe that Ulf and his colleagues need to acknowledge that the user experience (interface changes, bugs, 'missing' features and user options) has not been good for a significant number of previously committed v3.x users, and that the continuing lack of a true PRO version of v4 will further erode their confidence.
This, I believe, is the root cause of the (somewhat understandable) grumpiness which is evident in this and other threads. Any "focus on C1v4.1" also, surely, needs to address the question of user confidence in the product?0 -

Totally different situation that bears no relation to C1. Microsoft still support XP and have just released SP3. In addition, it's a choice between OSs, MS/Dell don't supply both. Phase One have dropped support for C1 v3, so it does seem like a strange decision to pack in both versions.
Sorry to repeat what had been said a trillion times already over the last few months, but it is not the sort of 'missing' features you mention that would make v4 a 'PRO' version that annoys most people on this forum - most of who have given up a long time ago - it's the missing features that were ALREADY IN v3 LE that PO have shown no interest in implementing in v4.0 -

It's a decision brought on first by the policy of releasing v4 as an LE level product, and then by failing to get the PRO version to market in a sensible time scale. Both bad moves in marketing terms, but not material to any discussion of whether v4 (or v4.1) stands or falls as a product in its own right.[quote="imacken" wrote:

Leaving aside the fact that some of us are here as v4 only newcomers (and Paul will always stay here, if only to switch off the lights 😄 ), please can you enlighten the ignorant - what LE-type features in version 3.x are 'missing' from v4, and are these deliberate design changes (e.g. cache location), performance changes (conversion algorithms etc.) or just plain missing?0 -
Ulf,
Let's focus on v4, can you confirm that the following functionality is being restored to the next version of C1?
-Centralized cache
-Quick proofs (Sorry, web generation does not replace this)
-Keyboard shortcuts for adjusting color and exposure
These are features I have used since v1 so I want them back.
You can add all the new features in the world but taking away the features we use every day makes the software unusable for some. Given the track record of hoe slowly updates come to C1 you leave people no other recourse but to investigate other software packages and let's be honest, c1 is not the cutting edge of RAW converters any more so there are other choices if Phase One decides not to listen to it's users.0 -

Well, some of the features that were in LE that are not in v4 are:
- no 'develops' sub-folder option
- no centralised cache
- no cache management capability
- no image tagging
- no 'sticking' profiles
- seriously limited preference options
There are others, but I've long forgotten what they are. Go back a few months on the forum and see all the unhappy posts at the time of release of v4.

Thanks, Iain and dmendlik, for your posts. So that makes a total of 8 features which were in v3.x, but are mostly 'just missing' from v4. It almost beggars belief that PO are prepare to offer 'upgrades' to existing users on that basis.
I'm in a different position. I evaluated and bought C1v4 as a RAW converter only, not as a workflow application, in which role, it is quite clear, v4 just does not cut the mustard. All the features you mention would, in my view, be needed for C1 to be the proper workflow tool which PO claim it to be.
If I were using C1 as anything more than a specialist converter, I would need- a much more capable downloader (compare something like Breeze Systems Downloader Pro);
- complete and standards compliant metadata handling (C1 would be unusable for me if I didn't have BreezeBrowser Pro to add the full metadata set to the conversions);
- some way of dealing with (at least) JPEGs, because, in the real world, it is not always appropriate, or in some circumstances possible, to shoot RAW.
