Tethered Canon - Is preview still so slow to be unusable?
Hi!
I was a loyal Capture One 3.7 user, but after countless hours spent trying to get v4 and then v5 to work well with tethered Canon capture, I finally gave up. Version 5 was stable enough for a job, but the previews were so slow to render on the monitor while shooting that the client couldn't see what we were getting. That just isn't an option for our jobs, we need the previews to render immediately so we can see what we are shooting.
But I'm drooling over the idea of Capture Pilot for the iPad, which makes me wonder if version 6 is worth checking out.
So the big question.... has the slow preview with Canon DSLR's finally been fixed? Do the images pop up immediately on the monitor while shooting tethered?
If not, I guess I'm sticking with EOS Utility and Bridge..... immediate previews and rock solid stability are still the most important things to me 😊

Because of the application of new Canon software inside CO6 stability and performance while tethering seems to be improved as is reported here by several users. Preview redraw is improved with OpenCL but that is not supported on all graphic adapters and further refinement of the feature is currently under development with high priority.
It all depends on your specific setup and your definition of slow or fast. As always, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.0 -
I guess that means no?
We shoot fashion catalog, one shot after another, and this software is impossible to use with Canon. Maybe if we did still life, one shot every ten seconds, we could get away with it.
We've tried it on a dozen different computer set ups, always the same problem.
Oh well.0 -
Maybe you could try a trial version of Capture One Pro? 0 -
I had a lot of trouble with C1Pro 5.x but fixed the canon issues by resetting all the preferences. It was to the point of unusuable but once I reset everything it worked just as it did in 3.7
I have set up C1Pro 6.0.1 on a 12 core tower with 24 gb of ram running OS 10.6.5. I have shot over 500 frames with two different canon 5d mark 2 with no problems.0
