Tethered D800 / C 7.1.3 still connection issues
First I want to say that the software continues to improve with each update.
However,
There are still some frustrating connectivity issues.
The laptop is a 2 GHz Intel Core i7 Mac Book Air running OSX 10.8.3 with 8 GB of 1600 MHz DDR3 Ram.
Since this is a brand new lap top older versions of C0 were never installed. I started with a completely clean install of ver 7.1.2, and then updated to ver 7.1.3
I have tried several cables with and without a powered USB3.0 4 port hub made by Certified Data. Only the hub is connected to the laptop, and only the camera is connected to the hub (leaving the other port free). When I tried without the hub then only the camera is connected also (leaving the other port free).
I essentially have the same issues with the Nikon 5 ft. OEM USB 3.0 cable (with and without an 16 ft. Active USB3.0 Tether Tools extension cable) and with a 15 ft. Tether Tools USB3.0 cable (with and without an 16 ft. Active USB3.0 Tether Tools extension cable).
When I initiate a new session Capture One does not see the camera until I unplug and plug the cable into the Hub. Sometimes I get a [ Refreshing Camera list. Please Wait... ] window. And sometimes 2 or 3 times.
When I turn off the camera I need to unplug and plug in the cable for the camera to be connected.
If I plug in the camera without Capture running, then Capture starts but does not recognize the camera until I unplug and plug it in.
The [ Refreshing Camera list. Please Wait... ] box seems to be trying to connect but after several minutes there is still no connection unless I unplug and plug in again.....
Sometimes even unplugging and plugging in does not work. Then I need to restart the C0.
I would go back to C0 ver 6.4.4 for shooting but I have to go through the unhappy process of deactivating and activating to keep both versions on the portable laptop. I do like the editing with ver7 and I am finding 7.1.3 fairly stable with the exception of tethered shooting.

I suggest you open a support case and provide the requested logs for analysis.
Regarding CO6 & 7 on one system, you do not have to deactivate either one when switching. They both should work activated with your CO7 key.0 -
I need to have one active copy of C7 on my larger edit machine and both C7 and C6 active on my laptop. I absolutely need to be able to edit my images with C7 using the laptop on location and I need to be able to capture with out all the freezes, so I need to use C6 too. Sounds like a 3 seat licence.
I will try to make time and start support case, however, I have to say, my clients are not impressed with my capture performance. I find myself distracted by not being able to 100% depend on the tether. I never can be sure if the exposure will work or not. This distraction stops me from being at the top of my game.0 -

I got to the bottom of the problem with help from tether tools.
Seems that the camera was confused because the removable media had images on it and may not have been reformatted for awhile.
Once I removed both cards, connection speed improved vastly.
I guess the camera did not know if it was supposed to down load, shoot to the computer, or shoot to the card. This created conflicts which slowed or stopped the connection process.
I feel like the problem may indeed be solved.
And for the record both C6 and C7 are workng.0 -

Do you have any other tethering/camera control applications installed as well ? CO can handle having a cf card in-camera no problem, as it just by-passes it.0 -
We are also having connection problems but as Grant indicates it seems to me that the problem is in the side of the camera at the USB3 port.
We are using teather lock + the little plastic lock that came with the camera + a lot of gaffer tape. Using a USB2 extension and a little 15cm USB3 cabel.0 -
When the SD and CF cards are installed and when the camera is turned off to change lenses, then it takes over 20 seconds for the camera to reconnect. If the cards are out then it takes only a hand full of seconds to reconnect.
If you do this a number of times, then it starts to take longer to reconnect.
I did not find the USB2 connection to be all that much slower. The OEM Nikon cable and plastic devise are a pain to install.

having this issue now. 7.1.2 worked fine for me, but not working at all with 7.1.3
mac os 10.8.4
tethering with Lightroom works fine. Its a pain to use LR tethered, but at least it works. Aperture works fine too. (so I know it isn't the cables-camera-mac issue)0 -

An extention cable may work for USB2 but not 3. Try a shorter cable or a powered hub.0 -

do you know if is a capture one issue?
maybe it will disappear with next version...
usb 2 transfer rate is not enough to manage fashion d800 session,
but
anyway i'll shoot c1 usb2 and never with other software!0 -

What I meant to say is: try a shorter cable or a USB 3 hub.
What it boils down to is that the higher speed of USB 3 comes with the limitation of a shorter (USB 3 certified) cable.0 -

I am having the same problems but with a D300. I am using the standard Nikon UBS2 cable - approx 5ft. The camera is recognised by the computer but not by Cap One Pro 7. The cable sits well in the camera body and computer. The problem occurs on both my Mac laptop and desktop. D300 firmware has been updated to newest version.
I have Pro 7.1.4
Any ideas??0 -
Best course of action is to check the manual and the camera.
Contact Nikon and/or shoot tethered to Nikon's software. If it works there, it will work in Capture One.
I would guess the camera itself is just improperly set to tether. The camera can be set to be a Mass Storage drive (USB on LCD) to transfer your CF card data or you can set it up to tether (PTP mode, no CF card in body).0
