Media Pro Keywords, Sets etc.
I am forced to organize my media pro catalogs into years. 2000-2004, 2005-2010, etc.. I want to have a consistent set of keywords, and catalog sets, places etc. Does anybody have any idea how to achieve this?
thanks.
thanks.

I would make catalog sets for each year and put the images from that year into that catalog set.
This should be very easy when your camera has put the correct date info the exif info. MP wil automaticaly sort on date (open the 'Organize' pane for that and look under 'Date Finder'.I want to have a consistent set of keywords, and catalog sets, places etc
What do you mean with consistent?
When you put a certain keyword in one of the images it wil appear in the 'Organize' pane under the header Keywords. From that moment you can drag other images onto the same keyword(s) so that's consistent in my opinion.
Remember: Keywords are compatible with other DAM but Catalog sets are not!
So when you put a lot of effort into a nice tree of catalog sets and you want to migrate to another DAM then you have a lot of work...

When you want to make a different MP catalog for each year, that's possible too!
1. Make different copies of your present catalog (with all images ?). One copy for each year.
2. Rename each copy catalog for one year
3. Open each catalog and remove all imgages that are not part of that year
This is save because the images themselves are not part of the catalog. When you hit de DEL key MP wil show this:

Roelof,
Your latter response will get me to where I need to be. But I was hoping I would be able to just create and export a set of keywords, catalog sets, etc.
Media Pro does not handle large libraries > 100k images. So I have to divide my images into separate catalogs.

Couldn't you use the "carrier" image method?
See Roelof's post in this earlier thread:

I think I could.. thanks!0 -

iView Media Pro and Expression media had limits to 128.000 images in one catalog. Media Pro should not have these limits anymore. Did you check how it responds on 100k + images?
When possible keep your collection in one catalog. It keeps things more simple to manage.
However, MP does let you search multiple catalogs in one run.0 -

I had a catalog with about 120K images in it. One day I came to save and the counter went past 100% and continued on and on and on.. the catalog was corrupted and there was nothing to do to fix it. I lost a lot of work and a lot of trust in Phase. I have tried a few times since to build large catalogs and it has always failed. I am trying once again to use Media Pro, simply because I really don't like the way Lightroom works for tagging etc.. Lightroom of course handles my large library with great ease.
The catalogs are not very fast with just 50K images in them. I recall iView being much faster, even on slower hardware.
I tried to import my images into a CaptureOne catalog.. and it always died at about 32K images.. so...0 -
USC308: Why don't you go back to using iView?
