A7RIII Stopped tethering
Hi: So yesterday, I was bragging to my spouse about how extremely reliable my A7RIII is when tethering to C1Pro 11.  BIG MISTAKE
Since my acquiring the system in late 12-2017, I've NEVER had a tether fail, until today. Architectural shoot, last image of the assignment. Camera just stopped tethering. Running the latest A7RIII software update. Restarted my Mac twice, C1Pro 11, twice. A few times, the LCD said "Connecting" but it never did. Using my tether tools USB-C cable; even tried my older tether tools USB-3 to Mini cable.Â
My A7III DOES tether immediately using the same gear so it's not the software, cables, or MacBook Pro.  Reminded me of my old Lightroom days; Yuch!  I also experimented enabling the camera as a hard drive to offload a few test files to my Mac. Nothing, no acknowledgement that the camera was connected to anything. Any thoughts?

When you write "Running the latest A7RIII software update" do you mean you were running it or that you have subsequently installed it?
If the last shot was the only one that failed on the day what might have changed in the camera or some other part of the during the time between the penultimate shot and the final one that did not work?
Is the camera set to PC-Remote?
Did the Mac see the camera as a storage device? (Did the camera havs a memory card installed?)0 -
Hello:
I had the latest, most current Sony software update installed by my Sony dealer last week.
The only thing I did was turn camera off, and disconnect the USB-C cable, to move to the next situation. Same protocol as all previous situations. In all cases I kept C1 running on the laptop, only turning camera off before disconnecting cable.
Yes, always set to PC-Remote when tethering.
After subsequent tether failures, I set the menu to “mass storage†to test. The laptop did not see the camera as a storage device.
Cards are always installed when I tether, and have been since late 12-2017. I never remove the cards when tethering.
I did receive a suggestion from another forum to “remove the battery, wait 30 sec., and then reinstallâ€. He said that cured his similar tether-fail issue. I can’t test this evening but will attempt this fix tomorrow morining.0 -

Hmm.
That's slightly worrying.
It sounds like you have used the tether successfully since the software update but now no form of connection to the computer works. Presumably you have tried as many computer connection parts as you have available.
Any possibility that you have had a software update on the Mac?
Any possibility it could be something to do with power management settings on the Mac? Maybe the port(s) running at reduce power? (I know next to nothing about Macs but power settings are a common possible issue on some PCs too so worth considering.) Or even the battery charge level on the camera?
Some form of "turn it off and on/take the battery out for a while" is always worth a try! Also reboot the computer but you have probably already tried that.
It may well be something very simple but just not at all obvious. That said the lack of any type of connectivity might point to a problem with the port on the camera since your other camera works (if I read you comments correctly.)

Hello Grant:
So, I tried the suggestion to remove and reinsert the battery. That was the fix, for whatever reason. I used to shoot with the Leica SL, and more often than not the camera would become glitchy. Removing/reinserting the battery worked for that system as well.0
